I remain convinced that in order to minimise gun deaths, we the people, who are sheep, should not be allowed near firearms.

Looking at gun deaths in countries with tough gun laws, I honestly cannot see another reason for far fewer deaths.

One more point; as an outsider, seems to me that the role of the NRA is to protect the gun industry.  It is not about the second amendment rights of its members based on the self serving, wilful misinterpretation of the US Second Amendment.

In regards to this story, there is a notion on the Right that the killer is some kind of radical Black Supremacist mass murderer, and his crime was racially motivated. Accept most of the evidence of this narrative is based on social media posts which at best prove he is a racist . But whether that was enough on its own to have motivated him to commit mass murder is unproven. Of course, when this is pointed out people point to Rittenhouse. The difference is we know Rittenhouse's reason for at the conflict zone was for political reasons there is no similar evidence for this killer.

I can't be sure why the attack happened, but I will disagree with your definition of racism. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to the other. It's not telling people to go out and commit attempted murder by knocking out old gringos. It's not making songs calling yourself a terrorist and rapping about shooting white people. These things go beyond simple 'racism'.

Racism isn't just believing one race is superior to another. So yes preaching violence against people because of their race is racism, Saying that your a terrorist is also racism if you're attending to terrorize people because of their race or for a racist cause. You obviously have no real experience with firearms. I have NEVER seen in over 50 years of gun handling and ownership - nor in my time selling guns or working on them for customers - a gun spontaneously fire. The ONLY one I have heard of - and known examples are very rare - less than 5 known - was a malfunction with the safety on Remington 700 rifles - AND THOSE still required a person to disengage the safety.

Literally 1 in billions odds.

That's not true at all, vintage revolvers were commonly known to fire spontaneously, which is why it was common practice to rest the hammer on an empty chamber.
