Oh yeah?  What's it an allegory for, then, seeing as how you see it clearly enough to deem it suiting purpose rather well?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

God and His people. There's plenty of depth there, for anyone who is willing to be honest about what they read.

"Infallible" is the real problem here. It tends to suggest "can not be questioned"... "is perfect"... "is better than anything you might think."

I have long thought that Christianity would be much less poisonous and evil without the concept of biblical inerrancy. It's a kind of decent religion without all that. But alas....

It shares this characteristic with the Koran. Both are taken by many believers to be infallible. And that is what leads to atrocities.  Get someone who think their texts is telling them to kill off those who disagree and you have real evil.

It’s not the perceived fallibility of the text.   It is the perception that there can be no alternatives outside the source of the text.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I can see the Bible is a sensitive subject for you. Was there ever a time in your life, when you read the Bible, and didn't think it was all bullshit?

'God and his people' is the obvious, surface understanding of the Bible. If it's allegorical, that stands for some other, hidden meaning. So the question of 'what is the Bible an allegory for?' remains unanswered.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Well then let me ask you this. Do you know who God's people are? If not, it's a mystery to you.
