Let's play a game. I'll ask a question that I think I already know the answer to. You guys guess, and when your answer doesn't match what I have in mind I'll tell you to dig deeper and if you get irritated with me I'll claim you don't want to learn. Sound fun? Way more fun than just telling you what I think, amIright? At least for me.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

One more reason that the Bible isn't allegory. It isn't coherent enough. Well if it isn't allegory, and it isn't literal, what exactly is it?
I would say it is a mix.
Ancient man asked the big questions of life:
“What am I?”
“Why do I exist?”
“What happens when I die?”
and so on.
Someone answered those questions with Genesis 1 and 2 and some other parts of the Tanakh. As time goes by, the previous leader priest dies and new ones take over. Probably they modify the creation myth a bit (Evolution of religion).
Eventually, they also insert some real history into it. Real wars, real locations, real cultures and they insert their gods and angels into it, possibly to give the soldiers and people some hope.
The ancient jews don’t seem to have historians. It looks like all their ancient texts has been written by priests.
Is there any text that predates 1 CE and that can be classified as jewish history?
I would say that the majority of their priests and people didn’t take these stories as allegory.
Perhaps the initial author took it as allegory or maybe he was trying to do his best to provide answers to his followers or give them hope. I don’t think that the initial author is going to tell the people “I making this part up to give you guys hope.” If he (George) did that, the stories would lose their value. People would be asking “Did Moses really talk to our god or is this a fabrication by George?”
“You know, that George, he really has a wild imagination.”

That's like asking why the NFL chose to favor the New England Patriots over all other teams for the last 20 years.
Maybe not a great analogy, but just as valid.
Why is it so?

A poorly written, rambling, thrill, dissembling manifesto. It is far too crass and blatantly domineering in spirit and tone to ever warrant the name allegory.

What did you expect the priests to write?
"Hey guys, there is one true god and yesterday he informed me that he didn't choose us."
A priest is basically a telephone. He connects you with the god and tells you what the god wants, he tells you what is upsetting him, what you should do.
The priest would immediately become useless if he declares that the god is cutting the cord.
At least if they had written that, it would have been consistent with the Adam and Eve story.

Correction. It's a collection of manifestos. The "Bible" is not a thing. It is a collection of stories, texts, predictions and other religion ramblings. No-one "wrote" THE Bible. And at least as many texts were destroyed as the number that made it into the final edition. Only those that were "approved", of course.
