"Gott Mit Uns" on your belt-buckle just isn't very pagan. Nazi hierarchy appealed directly to the Christian feelings of Germans in order to collate support. Paganism would have offended the same Christians who filled the ranks of the Wehrmacht.

Exactly. It have to be noted that there was tension between party and church but Germany was a christian nation.

I have to chuckle everytime, i hear about this "Hitler and paganism" myth. People indeed were watching too much Indiana Jones. Himmler, Himmler was a different kind of animal in this regard. He was an occultist nutcase.

If anything is needed to put the myth about occultism in the Nazi elite to rest:
After Heß* infamous flight to England, occultists were rounded up across the Reich on June, 9th, on order of Heydrich, and as we all know, Heydrich never was joking around.ever.

* who was, next to Himmler, the 2nd occultist nutcase

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I also have books on occultism in my library, it doesn’t make me an occultist. I also own books on geology, Roman legions, elephants, and trees (among other topics). This doesn’t mean I’m a geologist, a centurion, a zookeeper, or an arborist.

I still believe that reading them or having read them is not always the same thing. Just as a personal note: I stopped being interested in the subject as I became more and more spiritual. So I’m going to repeat this story:

On the other hand: There was a public fascination with these ideologies from many writers, movie-makers or event documentary series. So some facts were probably exaggerated. But Hitler is also known for restoring some pagan rituals and holidays as a way of bringing the German people closer to its roots in pre-Christian Antiquity. That was the romantic side of Nazism. But yes, my Wolfenstein 4D type of theory on Nazi Occultism seems to be a little exaggerated. Smile

"I stopped being interested in the subject as I became more and more spiritual."

When I ask ten people what "spiritual" means, I get ten different answers.

What's your take?
Disappointing theists since 1968!

^Hearing someone declare how spiritual they are sounds to be as an attempt to prove themselves somehow as superior.

The use of random emojis doesn't lessen the ick factor.

Somebody starts talking about being "spiritual", I hear "simp".
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

On spirituality: it's like sherbert thinking it's healthier than ice cream.

Fucking Christ. There's how many threads where this is discussed already and you gotta drag it in here as well?

This thread is not about spirituality. It's about the war in Ukraine. These folks are fighting for their lives and somehow it becomes here about whether "spirituality" is meaningful? Do you think they give a shit about it?

Ask your question in the appropriate goddamned thread. Only on an atheist forum can people climb up their own asses like this. Because when you've got missiles raining down and tanks rolling forward spirituality is not your primary concern.

ETA: All the others imputing "simp", "woo", or "superior", that's nice. At least you got to fire off a round you know others will clap at. Bravo, ta-ta, attaboy, and so on.
