And yet, many Republicans (or at least, conservatives) seem to have no problem voting in favour of  government stepping in to bail out large corporations. I don’t always disagree with such actions, it just seems hypocritical to decry governmental activism while voting for governmental activism.

The first time I watched that video, I saw that definition and immediately thought of Biker. Especially when his beliefs either go completely insane (like the toxic gases thing or the many times where he balks at the idea that people can prosecute people for crimes they merely attempted) or when he decides mid-thread that he actually wasn't arguing the same point he was arguing in every prior post in that thread.

So I take it that, according to Biker, 1 in 8 Americans are deadbeats who care more about buying the newest gaming system than paying off tuheir college debts.

Debts they took on because the economy all but requires a college degree for most jobs by this point, especially if you expect to afford to eat anything better than dog food (and even graduating is no guarantee that you'll actually get a job) and the costs of college tuition keep going up, often by significantly more than could be justified by inflation. And the pandemic is making the economy even worse, making it even harder to actually get a job. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of the consequences of student debt.

And I'd be part of that 1 in 8 if not for the fact that my grandmother's home sold shortly after I graduated from Columbia and I had to give much of the proceeds to the lenders to pay off the loans.

Cry me a fucking river..

We spent the last 8 years paying off.my SO's student loans - by scrimping - and making double payments every month.

We have not taken a vacation in that entire time. No new toys. Every purchase has to be considered. 

When you take a loan - you take on the MORAL as well as the legal obligation to pay it back....

If that' s too hard for you - pay cash - or do without.

Under whose authority? What makes you the moral harbinger of this subject?

Right. That's why their balls should be held to the fan. But it's not going to happen in a country filled with a Ragged-Dick mythos of bootstraps and gumption.

But this is not a new angle for the Republicans. They only continue finding new sucke -- er, fish -- er, voters -- that's the ticket! -- who buy into the claptrap of "small government for you is good, big government for my donors is good."

And why not? He doesn't have to own being stupid at that point, he can simply point to provenance and claim to be a heritage Republican.

Doesn't make him any smarter, more likeable, electable, or honest. It just makes him another dumb twat who doesn't realize the company he's keeping. If he loves that, I'm game. I'll glue that shit on like S&H stamps.
