Uh... It is debateable what that is.
The 2008 SCOTUS ruling says that your view is incorrect.
The ‘well regulated militia’ bit is pretty clear.
Fuck SCOTUS.
Boru That was the more liberal version....
Any bets on the current one?
I gotta admit - I admire your willingness to try swimming upstream for so long - but don' t you think ideas that the majority of gun owners would agree with would go further than railing about ideas that will never happen??

Regarding psych testing for gun owners.
-----
How many truly innocent men are on death row - and how many is it ok to execute?
------
Remember - these cases were based on evidence of PAST behavior. And we get it wrong. Frequently.
Extrapolate -
If you have psych testing for gun ownership - how many applicants will be unjustly denied? Especially when you consider that such testing will be done by a single person ( or small group) with the inherent likelyhood to make judgements ABOUT FUTURE BEHAVIOR based on their prejudices.

Well, I'm a liberal, so I'm not likely to support any other version.
I don't (and neither does your Supreme Court) give a shit for what the majority wants. If we go with what the majority of gun owners are willing to support, nothing will change.

I wouldn't mind requirements for owning guns (need/use/proficiency/physical-mental status/ ..........), I meet those same requirements to drive a car. It might mean that I have to give up the the ones I consider 'toys' but I'm OK with that. Being denied the opportunity to put meat on the table and/or control predators just does not sit well with me.
I haven't been asked to come out and help reduce the coyote population during that last couple of lambing seasons. I blame covid.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Nobody sane would, or should fault anyone for saving money on food by hunting. And nobody sane would or should blame someone for wanting to protect their property from harm from wild animals.
If I had a firearm, and a crock or hippo came after me, sorry, at that point it is them or me, and self preservation would kick in.
But with human on human violence with firearms we don't have an excuse. We know better, but it is just some don't want to face a very real epidemic.

You said that before, but why?
Why would I, as an (almost) sane adult require a gun?

Gunowners are a minority in the US. It you want to go with the rights of the majority of adult Americans, let's do that.
The majority of American adults do not own guns, nor do they live in a household where guns are present. The majority of Americans don't want to be shot. Let's accede to the wishes of the majority and try to arrange things so as to reduce the chances of getting shot.

Why would I, as an (almost) sane adult require a gun? As a last ditch measure to protect yourself if someone was trying to hurt you.
