THE Gun Thread
RE: THE Gun Thread
Did you look up ukranian gun laws before you shot that one off?

make guns as hard to get as an abortion.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

If your car is out of gas - putting new tires on it is not a solution.

Guns are not the problem. People are the problem. Control the problem people.

1. Make it a felony for anyone adjudicated by a court of their gun rights, to have a gun. The adjudication can be because of criminal felony, or as needed for mental health issues.

This has been done.

(May 16, 2022 at 1:16 pm)onlinebiker Wrote: 2. Require anyone adjudicated by the court as a "gun free zone" - to be required by law to obtain state identification that has a "No Guns" logo on it. Failure to comply is a felony.

Would criminals abide by this law? What if they just kept their old ID, or carried no ID a all?

(May 16, 2022 at 1:16 pm)onlinebiker Wrote: 3. Require a check of state ID at all gun sales - from FFL's or private citizens.

Agreed. I'd go further and require all private sales to go through FFLs.

(May 16, 2022 at 1:16 pm)onlinebiker Wrote: 4. Make it a felony to fail to check ID at point of sale.

Agree.

(May 16, 2022 at 1:16 pm)onlinebiker Wrote: 5. Make it a felony to sell to a person who is not allowed guns.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't this a felony already?

(May 16, 2022 at 1:16 pm)onlinebiker Wrote: 6. Put teeth in it -- put people who try to circumvent the law in very deep, dark holes for long periods of time.

We can sentence murderers to death, but this hasn't stopped murder.

Punishing the law abiding citizen for the actions of assholes is just plain fucked up.

I think if you own a machine that is designed to kill, you owe it to society to jump through extra hoops. My truck is not designed to kill people, yet I still must register it, and perform periodic tests to demonstrate my mental and physical capability to operate it safely.

The nuts are trying to make that the next culture war front. There's a push to make impaired and drunk driving prevention kits standard, like seat belts, for example.

This is, as they put it, encroaching on their freedom of movement - which is actually already a thing that sov cit nuts say as part of the magic words to make mean traffic cops go bye bye.

Quote:There could have been a registry, yes, if you were willing to put tens of thousands of rural people in jail for not registering their guns.

But, what was the main purpose?  Gang violence in cities isn't done with someone's old .22 rifle.  The state purpose was so that law enforcement, before responding to warrants or domestic calls, would know if they were dealing with a gun owner.

That was literally the best use-case they could come up with.  So, if you are a gun owner, I guess they come in with guns drawn.  So much for equal protection under the law.
So a pointless non-response....No suprise

Yeah - no thanks.

Want to see the difference between two countries where they allow the citizens firearms or not?

Look at China - a brave unarmed man facing down a tank..... ( we don' t know where he disappeared to - but he was brave)

Then look at Ukraine - where the citizens could own guns.... They TAKE the tanks - and run the Soviets back to the border.... An unruly lot the Ukrainians. Ya gotta love ' em....
Lol China and Russia ....Countries that became dictatorships due to people with guns and were not prevented from becoming dictatorships by gun ownership...... Dodgy

Also, OLB seems to have forgotten that the man facing down the tanks was engaged in a non-violent protest ....So why would he have brought a gun to the protest? Also, Ukraine's victory is a lot more complicated than "they owned guns" This is a very simplistic view.

Kindly go adjust your tinfoil hat.

The same laws should apply to all people whether they are law-abiding or not.

Are there responsible gun owners, yes.  Can some of those responsible gun owners become irresponsible, unbalanced gun owners?  Also yes.

Which is why the licenses should be made renewable. I have a friend who operates a small pest control company. He’s got years of experience, a good reputation, and is professionally licensed in his field. But every year, he has to take 16 hours of continuing education and every two years, his business practices are reviewed. Failure to successfully complete either of these would result in the loss of his license and his business. I have a hard time understanding the objection to something similar for gun ownership. Maybe not as frequently as someone who applies potentially lethal chemicals on a daily basis, but I can’t understand why pro-gun people would object to periodic proficiency and psychological re-testing.

And anyone  denied a gun license on psychological grounds should have the right of appeal.

You have my solemn word that if Russian tanks roll across the US border, I’ll drop all of my concerns about American gun culture.
