THE Gun Thread
RE: THE Gun Thread
So, last night, I was watching Eudoxia's new video about notorious Reddit criminals, and there was one story he refused to cover in detail: the case of family annihilator Farhad Towhid. Before offing his family, he uploaded a 12-page Google Doc suicide not, and one passage close to the end really reminded me of the talk about psych evals for gun owner background checks. And since someone uploaded the Google Doc in an imgur album (no graphic imagery; it's just text on a white background), here's the page that contains the passage in question (hidden on the off chance that the rest of the page is a bit too disturbing):

Apparently, in Texas as of last year, the psych evals are so shit that it's just a yes/no question on a form. And because of this, here's another thing that should be added to background checks: a scan of the medical records. If they found out that he was diagnosed with depression, and taking meds for it, he probably shouldn't have had a gun, and his family would still be alive now.

I just wish these gun nuts would be honest.

"I don't give a fuck if your 8 year old gets murdered. My right to own guns is more important than your child's right to live." Just be honest. That's all I'm asking.
"Tradition" is just a word people use to make themselves feel better about being an asshole.

@Boru.

You might be able to secure an affordable policy - but this is the us we’re talking about.

Specifically with respect to farms and businesses- the reality of those costs and that assumption of risk is -why- you can’t walk into a farm or onto a factory floor. They’re not paying for public liability in a slip and fall, the odds of opting in on a gun rider are nil.

It’s not uncommon for a farm to generate something like 30k in income with 300k in pass through. A lot of these guys use a bunch of uninsured vehicles just to get that.

You would think gun owners would want liability insurance. Plans in the US appear to range from $10-50/month. I don’t imagine that would bankrupt even a small family farm.

I suppose it would be easier the smaller the farm…but the smaller the farm the less likely profitability is a concern. Ultimately, though, any additional cost is a loss to revenue all the same.

Those sorts of objections tend to work extremely well here, wouldn’t you agree?

-additionally, you’re probably aware that a significant number of Americans have something like 400 dollars or less to their names. Broad populist sentiment is likely to reject this. Even non gun owners would be allies in rejecting it.

I don’t see why they would. Doesn’t  auto insurance, home insurance, and medical insurance all result in a loss of revenue? If a farm (or any other business) is so unprofitable that a $600 gun liability policy sends them into receivership, they were probably on the skids anyway.

Or are US businesses allowed to be completely uninsured? You’d know more about that than I would.

And what happens when one of those people is the subject of a gun lawsuit? Fuxxake - if you can afford a gun, you can afford the insurance.

And before you split hairs claiming manditory insurance is not a defacto tax....

From now on - you want to protest in public??

Fine - you will need to get a carrier to agree to - or you yourself will need to post a $50,000 bond FOR EACH PROTESTOR.....
