With me - about half the people I know are ( D )s and about 1/2 are ( R ).... There are only a very few I know that are ( N ) ( none of the above) like myself.
I respect people on both sides - and I think there' s some right wankers on both sides as well.
As near as I can tell - party affiliation has just about dick to do with how generous, kind, stingy or evil a person might be. I find those that put firm stock in the idea that either party makes you a better person - to be morons.
I thought that the fact I was talking about Republican policy makers and legislators was pretty clear. Obviously I was wrong.

The right to bear a firearm should of course be accompanied by restrictions.
Being part of a well regulated* militia where you have to qualify and then complete certain trining before gaining access to guns could be one, and bonus, it's constitutional unlike current gun laws.

But hey, we all know that nothing meaningful is going to happen unless and until one of Ted Cruz's children get caught in one of these situations. Republitraitors never do anything for their country unless it benefits them personally and more.

Maybe not all Republican voters, but evidently true of enough Republican lawmakers to make progress on this front almost impossible.

Well regulated militias, fuckin joke. Training wouldn’t actually satisfy that. The states governer is the legal authority over a militia, and states alone can name officers of such a militia.
Pretty sure these domestic terrorist cosplayers aren’t taking orders from Gretchen whitmer or anyone she appointed.
Then… they cross state lines to train with others….whatever they are, they’re not a well regulated militia. We had a perfectly serviceable term for them overseas. Starts with an I, ends with a belt fed gun firing.

This guy here. A veteran said it perfectly.
That is that if you are a marine you have to go every year and prove you are capable of handling a weapon in a process that lasts 2 weeks. If you are a private or a sergeant in the marine core barracks you are not allowed to have a gun in your room.
And of course, the 2nd amendment talks about the well-regulated militia and not that everyone should own a gun.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

They're all six feet under, and will be invariably unavailable for comment.
I am wondering why some people treat the(ir) constitution like christians treat the bible: Inerrant and never changing.
Its not as if the founding fathers (of any constitution) were superhumans. We do actually know that in case of the US they were racist, didnt have any problems with having slaves. In fact, some of them even had a "sexual relationship" (if that is even possible) with their female slaves. Women were notintended to be able to vote, or open a bank account (without hubbys permission) until ca. 1970 (iirc). We now know that slavery is wrong, we now know that women should be able to vote. Why should we stick to "everyone should have basically unlimited access to guns"?
Has anyone ever considered that the founding fathers were plain and simply .... sit down now.....wrong?

When I said Republicans don't care about anyone else's kids, it was a response to you responding to a comment Nomad made about Ted Cruz' kids. I'm sorry that particular congruence escaped you.
But I'm sure we can both agree that it's time for Democrats to start the long, slow, difficult process of repealing the Second Amendment and turning gun ownership from a right into a privilege.
