You never sold guns. I have. I have watched gun sales with interest - for decades. I have also profited well from seeing the trends and buying and selling accordingly.

Here IS what your plan would do. I make these educated guesses with a rather large degree of certainty.

Your plan would take months - possibly even years to implement. In the time between now and then - gun sales would SOAR. This time it would not just be AK-47 s and AR15s. It would be every kind of gun imaginable - at high prices. The panic buying would be incredible.

The manufacturers - seeing what is coming would prepare for the event by cranking out as many guns as they could. No vacations at Smith and Wesson. It would look like preparations for a world war.

And guess what? They would still supply guns for YEARS after the ban went into effect - as they would manufacture as many lower receivers as possible before the ban went into effect. See - the lower receiver - the part with the serial number is considered " the gun" and all the rest is just parts. Don' t argue this - it happened during the Clinton ban... They were " ban compliant guns"....

Your plan would flood the market - with high priced guns....

.
good go.....

You conveniently ignored the part where gun makers would be paid to NOT make guns - guaranteed profits for doing nothing. Just imagine - you could shutter your factory and STILL make the same profit, and that profit would increase every year.

I think much of your scenario could be avoided with, ‘Stop making guns today and we’ll give you a billion dollars tomorrow.’

Boru

Or you could just click your heels together 3 times and say " there' s no place like home".......

It would be nice - but the real world doesn' t work like that. Legislation takes time.

We can agree on that much at least - it wouldn’t happen overnight. But I think it would happen sooner than you think, once it’s driven home to gun makers that not only will they continue to make gobs of cash for doing nothing, but that they could also save money by not having to buy so many congresspersons.

Are you sure you don' t smoke dope??? Because you sure sound like some hippies I have met.

You don' t think that manufacturers will stockpile parts - specifically lower recievers - to sell at grossly inflated prices once the ban goes into effect?

An AR15 lower can be bought currently under $100. Your plan goes into effect? Thousands. The longer into the ban - and supplies dry up - keep upping the price.

That' s all profit. You think the nanufacurers will be happy just taking the stipend the government gives them?

You need to take an economics course or two mate....

AND on top of it all -

You would have to make this ban MANDITORY - for all manufacturers. There are thousands of gun manufacturers. The little guys would LOVE it if the major manufacturers shut down.

It' s also unlikely the SCOTUS would say such a plan is legal.

So don' t hold your breath...

**I consider myself to be a hippie.  I don't smoke dope and haven't since I was quite young.  I wasn't aware it was a requirement.

Also a great idea, and demonstrably effective. I don't know if you knew this or not..but poor people steal. Granted, it's a drop in the bucket compared to corporate theft, but we have noticed a wee bit of a relationship between poverty and crime.

The cool thing, is that it's cheaper to John Q Taxpayer than their for profit prison stays would be, too.

Guns are illegal here in the UK and we have less school shootings than in America where it's legal. Go figure.
