The lack of rats spreading disease is in large part down to our controlling the rodent population - for reasons..... There are very few things that every civil admin on the planet agrees with, and rodent control is one of them.
Thing is, cats don't actually kill many rodents anyway. Despite their rep, they mostly hunt bugs(and small reptiles).

I also enjoy that. Ultimately, I think, cats hunt for fun for the same reason we do. Practice. They're not as entuhusiastic about it as dogs are, in my experience - but then I guess that;s probably down to dogs and I liking to hunt the same sort of shit, and mostly different shit, from cats.
Speaking of rodents, ever seen a bunch of terriers on a hay pile? Makes you glad you're not a field mouse.

Murphy used to bring me dead mice. I would find them in his food dish. He was feeding me back.
He was a wild kitty that husband found in a shed at work. Though he found a home with us and was regularly fed, he remained a dedicated hunter.

Not alot else to do when your'e a housecat. Similar to jobless rednecks. Those boys are always out in the woods.
At this point, I've got a question about the question? What goal would calling cats evil, or killing evil things for their evilness, even serve? We already manage domestic/feral cat pops when they become an issue. Australia being a famous example. Nobody has to imagine that the cats are whisker twirling cartoon villains to see the reason in that...though I have to admit, if evil is a thing, and some particularly egregious actions of, say, human beings are an example, I don't see the cats (or the dogs) putting much effort into it. They're just not pulling their weight in the evil dept.

What was the last time some disease spreaded from rodents to humans? I can think of three times when it spreaded from bats to humans, all in recent history: EBOLA, SARS and COVID-19. As far as I know, no recent epidemic or pandemic came from rodents. Bats are far more dangerous.
BrianSoddingBoru4 Wrote:As far as killing sentient beings goes, humans do that on the regular. What do you mean? You mean all the animals killed on the roads? Well, we are, unlike cats, not doing it intentionally and we are trying to minimize that. Cats are not trying to minimize the amount of sentient animals they kill, to the contrary.
People regularly contract diseases from rodents, including (but not limited to) hantavirus, tularemia, leptospirosis, monkeypox, and Lassa fever. They are vectors for diseases like plague, typhus and West Nile virus. FYI, bats are not rodents. Simply because there hasn’t been a recent pandemic of these doesn’t alter the fact that tens of thousands of people die every year due to rodents. How many people are killed by cats? How many would die from rodent-borne diseases if it weren’t for cats?
No, not roadkill. We deliberately kill billions of birds and mammals every year for food and and for industrial raw materials, and have caused the extinction of thousands of species through the expansion of our own.
And you wanna pick on CATS??

Cats kill about 20 billion rodents yearly, a drop in the proverbial bucket.

Works out to something like two or three per cat per month, on average, yeah. We've got them beat, just in rodents alone, by far...and it's not as if we're killing the mice to eat them (more trying to stop them from consuming something like a fifth of all of our produced food, before we even get into things like disease and property damage). There's something absolutely delicious, to me, in watching the worlds premiere killers wring their hands about how many animals a cat might kill. We don't even measure most of the animals we kill by number - only weight. It's a bit more than three per month though, you can be sure of that. We're not trying to minimize it, either, we're trying to increase that number as a good indicator of human health and well being worldwide.

I've never been much of an animal or pet person, until recently I stumbled across this YouTube channel 'Lovely Kitten' that I now find mesmerising. It's just videos of this little kitten that spends most of its time hugging and sleeping with these little ducklings and they in turn seem just as keen and comfortable to snuggle up with the kitten. I just find it so inspirational and beautiful... that as brutal as nature can be, there is also harmony between species, and this was a beautiful, and, at least for me, unexpected example of that.
