2024 US Presidential Election
RE: 2024 US Presidential Election
I had to look up Warrant. I don't get the reference.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Hair-metal band well past their glory days, reduced to playing sheds and barnyards to a couple of hundred Xers wanting to relive glory days that really weren't.

Popcorn

Lars has lawyers not only on speed-dial, but standby.

Not to mention the image mismanagement @The Grand Nudger alludes to. The song is literally about your nightmare coming to life.

Kinda like when Republicans use Springsteen's 'Born In The USA' at their rallies, thinking it must be some sort of patriotic anthem.

(Or maybe not. Junior is an opportunistic monster. It’s possible that doesn’t give a wet fart what his family thinks about him.)

Don't take this as my opinion, only hearsay, because American politics is way over my head and I don't follow it, but someone I know does follow this and told me all about it and is supporting this guy, so this is roughly what they have to say on it (but don't ask me go deeper, because as I said it's over my head). Basically they see him as anti-establishment in meaningful ways to them, but that he has been repeatedly frustrated by the Democrats, so this decision is apparently a practical/pragmatic decision to get him a high up but useful position in a Trump government (and/or say fuck you to the Democrats). So the person I know, who usually wouldn't touch Trump with a barge pole, is now finding themselves in an awkward position of wanting to potentially support Trump on account of this; as a means to an end. So yeah, that's all I know about this, but thought it perhaps worth it to share this other perspective.

I've heard similar things.

Everybody knows that Kamala would be 100% more of the same. And a lot of people are sick of that.

Normally we'd expect Trump to be about 99% the same as a Kamala administration. His only selling point is that he might possibly be independent of the people who run the country usually. And RFK is, potentially, serious about wanting to change things. So the idea is that RFK might push for real improvement, and Trump might do it out of sheer orneriness.

I mean, it's nothing but wild speculation at this point. I make no claims to foreknowledge. But there are people who'd roll the dice for a chance, rather than settle for continued decline.

Kennedy also reached out to the Harris campaign - he’s only ‘frustrated by the Democrats’ because he’s so batshit crazy that none of them will hire him.

This man wouldn’t know a principle if it kicked him in the teeth.

I've just checked with the person that they're happy with me talking about this, and they are, so i guess just to paraphrase then, they disagree and see him as very principled (this was not in direct response to this post here, just in reply to me) and suggest anyone should watch his full speech before making a judgement. That it was not an easy decision for him, but that he 'stepped down from being a spoiler candidate' and did something uncomfortable for the greater good. Which sounds to me, similar to what Biden did, (the spoiler candidate bit), and which I have huge respect for him for doing... takes balls to step down for the good of the country. Whether Junior's thing can be compared to that, I don't know, but just on the face of it it seems similar, but as I said, I don't myself have a horse in this particular race.

As I said, I really don't know enough about this to comment much beyond what I've already said, but just thought it was worth getting that out there, because it is very important to this person I know.

Yeah, that's about the limit of my understanding as well. But it's an unexpected way to shake things up, and I'm curious to see where it'll go from here.
