That doesn't mean he will leave quietly. We can only hope that four years will be too many Big Macs for him.
At this point I hope he lives out his term. If he dies, we get Vance for who knows how long -- but long enough to cement the destruction of our democracy. I believe that this will be the last free and fair election I'll see in my lifetime.

I am not that pessimistic, my gut feeling is that the US have enough antibodies to fight off the disease and remain democratic.
Remember: we italians are forerunners, we had Berlusconi that was kind of little Trump, and once he was dead (and even before) we did not slipped into parafascist state. When we had Berlusconi, the whole world laughed at us (and they were right), but then the US got his Berlusconi (Trump), the UK got his Berlusconi (Johnson) etc etc
What amazes me, is that the democratic party look so weak and far from "main street" tbat cannot exhibit a candidate that is there because is good, they thought Kamala Harris (that was judged by everybody as by far unfit during her role as VP) would catch the votes of women, blacks and foreigners becuase of her personal story, and then they get surprised that she does not get votes...

They will make a peace deal with Putin, where they will give up a chunk of Ukraine to Russia.
The US will be "paid" with all the data of new "warfare technique" developed in this war that was the first war fought with large amount of drones etc. There is an invaluable amohunt of info that will be useful to the US military complex.
It is a shame, I strongly disagree with it but this is what it will happen.
Ukraine made a lot of mistakes even prior to the war and Putin is the boss of a mafia state, but this is ultimately what will happen

Worst case scenario? They get marched at gunpoint into probing attacks of latvia and estonia.

Thinking things through this morning, while it's comforting to focus on the details at hand, ultimately this is a result of the interplay between our systems of governance and human nature. Democracy is an imperfect system. Every few years, instead of looking to preserve what few successes we managed, we focus on the problems that remain and look for someone to blame for the way we feel. Democracy, at least as practiced in the United States, is reactionary. Without a more informed and wise electorate, which is a limit imposed by our nature, we likely can expect regime change after regime change after regime change. Democracy is not an ideal system, at least not in its current form. Could it be a good solution, with just a few tweaks here and there? Maybe. For now though, the problem of governance will remain for all of us. All we can do is accept the progress we've made, and not fear and dread the reversals. Is this the end of democracy in the U.S.? Perhaps. But if it is, what replaces it will be temporary as well. Nothing lasts. Nothing is finished. And nothing is perfect. The best we can do is hope for the future.
