If the world pooled its resources and constructed a viable Palestinian state on Mars, Israel would STILL try to destroy it.

And Leo would still try to justify it.

Trump has screwed the pooch:

Quote:Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said the U.S. ending the war in the Middle East would practically cede control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20 percent of the world’s oil travels, to Iran.

“Iran right now, if we declared victory, they would now say they own the strait. You’d see a tax for every ship that goes through,” Mattis, who led the Pentagon during President Trump’s first term before resigning in 2019, said on Monday during CERAWeek by S&P Global in Houston.

“We’re in a tough spot, ladies and gentlemen. I can’t identify a lot of options,” he added.

Contrary to what our Turkish friend above asserts, the Israeli-American air war has only strengthened Iran's position, as our options have been winnowed down to Maslow's Hammer.

I’m still not accepting defeat at this point. I did browse the news today (as I usually do). There truth is: We don’t know anything yet.

The main things that we know is that this administration is very eager to put some pressure on places like Cuba and Venezuela too. So I don’t want to be too cavalier about anything with an administration that has canceler a huge offshore wind turbine project with Total Energy from the Joe Biden Era to replace it with a similar sized fossil fuel extraction project with the same company.

The German President Frank Steinmeier has even called the Israel-US military intervention to Iran as “illegal” today.

My point of view on all of this is that perhaps the US elections in November 2025 did not produce the better result for the US itself and for the whole world in general.

But my current attitude on the particular issue of the IRI is simply to wait and see:

I sort of happen to know what’s going on the Kapikoy land border with Iran. Some are coming in just for holydays (it’s the new year in Iranian calendar), some are entering via the land-route and then taking a plane to go somewhere else, some are even going back to Iran, abandoning their projects in Turkey to be with their families. One think I know is that people in Iran are afraid. The government cutting the internet is adding to this climate and fear and insecurity.

But it’s simply too late to give up anything at this point. The whole situation will have to unfold in whatever way it’s supposed to unfold and we will all have to deal with these consequences (especially all those oil-producing Gulf countries + Saudi Arabia).  Cool

It's not about "victory" or "defeat". It's about adding useful content to the conversation. I wish your contributions were better-informed historically and more apt with regard to American foreign policy.

This conversation is becoming a little toxic for me. I never said I was an expert on anything but I am trying to make useful contributions here.

You Friend Denisovich on the other hand is truly being a jerk by posting constant aggressive messages about me.

So let me answer to those first:

Take that up with him. I am not responsible for his words. I am responsible for my own words. I'm not asking that you be an expert. I'm simply asking that you not post stuff that is egregiously in error. You've done so several times and when I pointed them out, you generally ignored my corrections.

So from my perspective, your contributions suffer from error and an unwillingness to absorb corrections.

I'm not out to hurt your feelings. I'm just calling a spade a spade.

That is absolutely fine with me.

But I am not a troll (awty just called me a troll).

Denisovich is openly insulting me. So I am a bit on edge here.

Of course I’m relatively un-informed about American politics. I’m not an American Smile

But I do watch the news. Basically, I am happy with pro-Palestinian sentiments that is on the rise in many Western countries since the last few years. I see it as a sign of the increase of the collective consciousness on this planet. I also made it very clear that I emphasize with many anti-Israeli postures as well. But no one should antagonize me when I try to explain (the way I understand it) at least the Israeli position. Especially on the issue of Iran.

Here we use the expression “This guy/gal has no place to lay his head on”. That’s how I see the IRI. This could be a good topic of debate if we choose to make it so. I am someone who likes debates and different viewpoints. But antagonizing people you simply don’t know is not very cool if you see what I mean Smile

Trump has fucked the dog. We know this. The entire planet knows this. It's the only thing that he's good at. The only way that you don't know this is willful ignorance. There are very few exits here and none of them are good. The best of them would involve the Ayatollahs being reasonable and negotiating with the Americans, but that's unlikely given how obvious it has become that, despite being bombed silly for nearly a month, they're the ones with the stronger position.
