RE: US Strikes on Iran (Operation Epic Fury)

Further to that:
Quote:Under the Hague Convention and other international treaties, it is illegal to threaten that no quarter will be given.
Domestic laws, such as the 1996 War Crimes Act, also prohibit such policies. US military manuals likewise warn that threats of “no quarter” are illegal.
Brian Finucane, a senior adviser at the International Crisis Group, a think tank, said Hegseth’s comments appear to run afoul of those standards.
“These comments are very striking,” Finucane told Al Jazeera over a phone call. “It raises questions about whether this belligerent, lawless rhetoric is being translated into how the war is being conducted on the battlefield.”
But Hegseth has publicly dismissed concerns about international law, claiming he would abide no “stupid rules of engagement” and no “politically correct wars”.
His rhetoric has provoked concern among some experts that measures designed to prevent civilian harm are being ignored in favour of a campaign of “maximum lethality”.
Hegseth’s remarks also come after a US strike on a girls’ school in southern Iran that killed more than 170 people, most of them children. The war has left at least 1,444 Iranians dead and millions more displaced.

While purely hypothetical, this needs to be called to PP’s attention:

No doubt about that at all. He doesn't give a flying fuck about anybody unless their interests align with his. Anyone who believes otherwise is a damn fool.
Even then, it's only the shared interest he gives a fuck about. The person? Pffffft.

Bill Clinton weighs in on this again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4NswL3E_IM
For all his human faults, I really love this guy. He spells out his case in clear, concise language that anyone can understand. He paints a stark difference between thoughtful, sober, intelligent leaders like himself and Barack Obama and 5-year-olds in adult bodies like the Great Orange Turd that is now the head of the free world.
Even shitbags like Nixon and fucking idiots like GWB at least took their duty seriously. At least there is nowhere to go but up from this abyss.

Disregard!
This is a fucking AI video! This is not Bill Clinton speaking. It might as well have been but it isn't.
Geez, what a fucked up world this has become.

What offends me even more is this:
Quote:From “Grand Theft Auto” to “SpongeBob SquarePants,” the White House has turned to memes from pop culture and video games to sell President Trump’s war with Iran.
The videos follow a broader trend in the Trump administration’s social media strategy, which increasingly uses artificial intelligence, pop culture and at times sarcasm to promote Trump’s policy priorities and slam his political opponents.
But those memes, which splice together popular kids’ shows or video games with actual footage of the U.S.-Israeli military campaign in Iran, are drawing backlash from lawmakers and experts, who say they go too far in blurring the line between unserious fiction and the realities of war.
“It takes a really complicated and important situation — armed conflict — and boils it down to a little cartoon image,” Peter Loge, a political scientist at the George Washington University. “By making war like a game or cartoon, that removes the reality of war from people’s minds.”
The videos, ranging from five to 50 seconds long, began days into the conflict with Iran and have continued as the war approaches the two-week mark. Seven U.S. service members have died from Iranian attacks since military operations began, and the Pentagon estimated about 140 other members have been injured as of Tuesday.
In one video posted Thursday, the White House spliced together clips from the animated “Wii Sports” game theme with videos of the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran. At one point, an animated baseball player is shown at bat ahead of actual footage of a strike in Iran as a Wii narrator says “out of the park.”

War is not a video game, you fuckhead. War is not a laughing matter.

What Trump doesn't understand and Merz does is that Iranian actions against the US-Israeli attacks do not constitute an attack on a NATO member.

BrianSoddingBoru:
- I’m not hiding the fact that I am truly starting to like D. Trump + Netanyahu (at least on this issue). Actually two mine sweeper ships from Malesia + a number of US Marines from Okinawa are being moved to the region. So I think yes, D. Trump seems rather serious about ending this (which is actually a war that has been going on since the foundation of the IRI).
/Do not misunderstand me: I usually do not like populist leaders. But when they are right about something, I will usually be likely to admit it.
Thumpalumpagus:
“Trump did not launch this war out of concern for the Iranian on the street. He doesn't give a fuck about them.”
- President Trump + Netanyahu are not sociopaths. I think both of them are capable of empathy. And both of them are seeing what this regime is doing to its own people.
But the real cause is that, 1) you cannot let a regime like this control the flow of energy from gulf countries, 2) You cannot allow them to keep being a threat to Israel (and other allies in the region), 3) You cannot have them threatening you to build a nuclear weapon of any kind
Ivan Denisovich:
I’ll give a +1 to that.
But don’t forget: The IRI is owning Lebanon (+ Iraq + other countries) through Hamas + Hezbollah. (By the way there is no “Party of Allah in Islam, that is pure blasphemy). So what does Israel do?
But yes: Israel needs to remove all of its colonies in Palestine and leave the Palestinians alone.
And to end with an anti-Trump remark: We all need the UN and UN resolutions need to be respected. And we need a stronger Europe too. The international order is pretty messed up in our days (partly because of D. Trump)
Desse23:
“Merz: "Nato is a defensive alliance, not an intervention alliance"”
- D. Trump has been making fun of the European since he came to power. Now it is likely that European will not come to help him in the strait of Hormuz.
+ If Iran hits a NATO ship, it is going to be at war with NATO. So how is this going to work?
The new Ayatollah might be a gay man:

You keep telling yourself that. What personal experience do you have with them to inform your opinion of their capacity for empathy? I've got plenty of public evidence from current events in America which demonstrate that Trump doesn't care about anyone but himself.

No. The real cause is that Trump tore up an agreement that was canalizing Iran's nuclear program into civilian purpose, and then manufactured an artificial threat. Iran quite simply didn't have the money to both feed its people and build nuclear weapons, and thus we saw the winter protests.
Trump and Netanyahu both had their own political reasons for instigating this war.
You're being terribly naive.
