If he really believed that, he would have strapped on a bomb himself ten years ago instead of hiding in a cave all that time.

Is there a Muslim tradition that the body must be buried in 24 hours?
That and who wants to keep a decomposing body around?

No, they are not. The day, month, year are how the military writes dates.

I recall seeing some road signs giving distances in miles and kilometers back when I was a kid. They disappeared pretty quick.

Although a dead person should be buried as soon as possible, there's no 24-hour limit for the burial, as far as I know.
What are the Islamic Burial Traditions?
Secondly, the most common method is for the body to be buried deep under the soil (in a cemetery). Sea burials are rarely practiced, because this is done only if the person dies on a ship. So, it's clear that Osama bin Laden's burial was not done according to the Islamic manner as Obama claims it to be (edit: and I'm sure that it doesn't really matter to the US on how a terrorist gets buried).

It is allowed if there is a chance that the body might be desecrated where the body would be buried (I have been told this by a muslim at our company, who may or may not be right but it sounds plausible to me), and I'd say in the US there would be a real good chance of that.

And his body is more likely to be desecrated in the sea by them hungry sharks and fishes.
It seems to me that the US government didn't want us to find out something about his body. That's why they quickly dumped in the sea so that there's no evidence of what really happened. But again, I'm not saying that is the actual reason for doing this. Just saying that this is a possibility.

Well, his body will be desecrated by worms if buried in soil. I think dropping him in the sea is a good idea. Muslim's may not bury their dead at sea most of the time, but then most muslims are not at sea most of the time. I understand Muslims didn't do what the French navy did during the age of sail did, which was to stash the dead in the hold, packed in salt or in liquor, for burial on land. So hardly could it be said that drop a dead muslim over the side is not consistent with Muslim tradition under the circumstances.
Basically, dropping him over the side deprive muslims of the possibility of worshipping his grave as a shrine, while not appearing to go out of the way to desecrate his body. It's much the same as what was done to Nurenburg war crime convicts sentenced to death.

Well that makes a little more sense ...
But my point is that they should have at least taken pictures or let more people see the corpse to verify that this was actually Osama's body (before dumping it in the sea).
