This whole thread seems so retro. Nonetheless, in answer to the OP, the reason the bible is held true by most Christians can be summed up as "by definition". That wasn't so hard.

Now what does any of this have to do with the OP. Why should a reasonable, clear thinking person think the bible is true. Are you one of those people whose faith is first and foremost in the bible? Or do you have a secret friend? If the answer is both I have a hypothetical question. If your secret friend and the bible contradicted, which would you favor?
