Gee, thanks for your mercy, god.

I really don't see how could you have reached the conclusion that God isn't merciful based on this.

Really?! Does this help you understand?

They're religious.... so long as it doesn't interfere with their chosen way of life.

They believe in the Bible - or at least the parts that don't require them to do anything in particular. Or,
the parts that don't contradict what they want to believe about CHRISTIANITY. Most have not even
read it. That baffles me, since if you are going to base your life on a book, and believe your afterlife
throughout eternity depends on adhering to that book, why don't they bother to read the darned thing?

Their idea of "Christianity" is more "Churchianity". They read them the nice, feel-good parts of the
Bible about how God "loves" them - and ignore all of the places where He just arbitrarily kills
everybody. Or the more absurd laws in the Old Testament that they say don't apply. Or the justifications
for slavery that exist in the New Testament as well as the old. For many, church is a place to meet
people that share the same prejudices. It's a place to have someone tell you what to believe. It's a place
to give your money so that you can feel that you've "bought" your place in heaven.

So.............do we categorize this as the "Yahweh Is An Asshole" Defense, D-P?
Hang on there! I mean, just because he is credited with the single largest mass murder in 'recorded' history doesn't make him an asshole. Nor does allowing the massacre of all male infants to commemorate the birth of his son. Sure, he could have simply made Herrod change his mind or forget about wanting to do that, but then it wouldn't have been mentioned in the histories of the Romans or the Hebrews or anybody else, would it?

I agree that they don't believe anything in the bible. If they did they'd be acting like Christ rather than like Christians.

I am currently reading through the Bible, I was not aware of the sort of things that you can't do.

My catholic Granny isn't going to enjoy the eternal hellfire that awaits her according to what the Bible teaches.

Well, regarding things I didn't know, in I think it was Deuterotomy 13: 6-9 (I may be wrong as i dont have the bible with me) says that if someone pretty much challenges your faith then you will not spare him or pity him; you must kill him by stoning him to death...with stones!

And as for sinning... You can go to hell for thought crime... it is a pretty fucked up system they have there.

But who are we to judge... oh yeah! The ones who have not abandoned our reason and logic for a magic sky lord.

Agreed. Let's face it, I'm pretty certain every Christian is guilty of thought crime, so they are all fucked as well. Actually given how poor their arguments can be, I doubt they are capable of thought crime. Thankfully magic sky genocidal maniac doesn't likely exist.

No, no no no no......

What makes him an apparent asshole is deciding that he has to "sacrifice" his own "son" which is really him all along instead of simply saying "I forgive you, scumbags."

You know....

Oh common Min!! That's not fair. When you say it like that it just makes christianity sound stupid and utterly retarded!
