What are your answers?

I could well ask you why it is that you hate Zues, Apollo, Odin, Thor. In fact I will, using the exact same logic that you employ I will assume that you do indeed hate these characters and ask you why?

What I hate is people trying to impose their own ideology arrogantly on others because they believe they are right, no, they know they are right and anyone who does not accept what they accept must be wrong.

I guess it's easy to say that it seems athiests hate God because of all the mockery, assault, etc. Personally since I don't believe in Allah I rarely mention him. I don't believe in Apollo or Zues, therefore I barely ever waste my time speaking about them, but when I see people starting threads about how much they're annoyed and can't stand this or that, I just questioned the reason behind it. I'm not trying to convince anyone I'm right and instead of deciding how people feel about God, Jesus, organized religion, I expressed my views on what it seems like athiests think and am thankful that athiests responded to correct me. It is not my intention to disrespect any of you, just remember that even though this is your place, you've given me the ability to express my opinion among you. Thank you.

In my experience wounded people are more likely to want the crutch of their impossible friend. If god suddenly appeared to me i would question my sanity.

Quote:2. Do athiests hate God or do they hate organized religion in general?

On the balance of probability there is no god, but organised religion is one of the bigest causes of conflict on the planet and I hate its ability to turn otherwise nice people into brainless automatons.

Quote:3. Why does it seem like athiests hate Jesus more than anyone, what do you think of Jesus?

I am unconvinced that there ever was a jesus other than as a handy plot device in a fiction story.

Quote:4. Do any of you know athiests that have converted to another religion, did you feel swayed by their conversion?

no none, but my wife was a christian and is now a spiriualist, I dont know which is worse to be honest.
Quote:5. Are you an athiest based on your research of many of the top religions, or does your athiesm come from a personal experience where you feel that God didn't show up like he should have?

I have never believed in god for one second, the whole concept seems a bit well silly.
Quote:6. Since athiests don't believe in God and dislike when people force God on them, why do they force their negative and hateful opinions on Christians (and other religions) through mockery and verbal assault?

this is an atheist forum, I dont stomp around gosport berating random people for their stupid beliefs, if they come here then they are fair game.

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

I'm sure that most atheists are not venting their spleen at theists such as yourself, you seem quite reasonable and level headed. However, when confronted with the lunatic and fundamentalist likes of Ray Comfort etc. then I think we have just cause!

Because believers knock on our doors and prosyletize. Because believers send us mail promoting their particular beliefs. Because believers wear T-shirts and hats promoting their beliefs. Because believers plaster their cars with bumper stickers. Because believers leave their religious propaganda in public spaces. Because believers have entire television and radio networks to get their message out. Because believers build nonsensical "museums" that ignore science and promote stupidity. Because believers want their beliefs promoted in government and the schools. In short, believers are VERY LOUD about telling us what they think is "the truth". We can only respond by telling them their beliefs are nonsense and unsupported by any evidence in an EQUALLY LOUD manner. Even so, believers are unchallenged over 90% of the time. We're simply trying to level the playing field a bit.

Good call. We are loud with our beliefs, I never looked at it that way.

I'm of the opinion that I have cause to withhold courtesy or civility from anyone who fantasizes about my eternal torture.

Most likely not.

Hey, I appreciate the honesty. That's what my friend would say! Yes! You're so alike, except he actually doesn't mind being my friend. Maybe I'll grow on you...

I just looked up Ray Comfort, I'd have to listen to him in order to know if I agree with his biblical views, smh, that's how it goes for us Christians...sometimes we can't trust each other! That's why I hold on to the teachings in the Bible and I study them constantly, I don't want to be tricked by someone and handed some kool-aid.

Thanks for the compliment, Darwinian, and you're correct that I don't have athiests running up to me to spit my beliefs into submission, it's more likely an extremist might participate in something of that nature. Honestly, I enjoy posting with all of you because you are all helping me understand how to be more respectful of people in general, no matter what they believe or don't believe. As a human, the least I can do is be respectful of people around me, as a Christian I am called to glorify the Lord with my behavior. I appreciate your quick responses.

So, ostensibly you're a big reader. Got a couple links for you.

http://wiki.ironchariots.org/index.php?title=Main_Page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science

Any question you ever ask me, as an atheist, has most likely already been addressed at one of those links (or the associated links contained therein).

Even though I may seem beyond nerdy, I'm a pretty serious friend. I enjoy realistic friendships with people that know that I am flawed and that I do not have all the answers. I enjoy friendships where we can go into the deepest areas of our fears, desires, pains and theories on life in the middle of a super market. I don't really like small talk, but I'll engage in it if that's all the other person can muster. I love people and have a deep desire to surround myself with understanding, friendly, respectful and reasonable people of any faith. I felt you were one of those people, am I wrong? Perhaps you cannot be like that with me, because you don't know me, but I invite you LastPoet and anyone else to drop me a note if they want to talk about anything.
Rhythm,
thanks, I'll check out the links. I have a meeting soon, so I may not respond quickly, but I'll take a look for sure.
