From what I do know, and that's a strong 'know', you are incorrect. You choose to be blind on that fact, and that's up to you. You don't want that knowledge that will show you that you're wrong, I've offered > you've declined. I like you a lot, but that is willful ignorance, no less. Not a position I can respect I'm afraid.
Frodo,
You are such a great example of special pleading and you lay insults down with that smug tone you have in most of your posts. Your "knowledge" has been questioned for as long as I can remember being part of this forum and I even challenged you to PM me your reasons for believing in God and You've never provided anything at all. What you fap on about in post after post amounts to nothing more than some noodle soup concocted of dodges, trite religionisms, and smug proclaimations of "knowledge".

Not necessarily – it’s not a bad thing to give teens something of a resource to learn about the atheist movement without having to go to the 4 horsemen for their most readily available information.

but than again, I'm not an atheist, so my perspective may be considered a lot less valid.
You and DeistPaladin seem to have a better grasp on principles of religion (or lack of religion) than some atheists that have been through here. I, for one, enjoy your two cents.
I would put in more, but I really don’t have time to finish reading it here at work and I think it’s obvious you’ve got a lot of stuff all mixed up with each other. I think a little extra time on Wiki and a little more library research would benefit you.

12 year old kids don't need to read Paine to be an atheist. They just need to be taught critical thinking skills. Indeed. I figured it out when I was 10. The only thing that kept me quiet for so long is that I thought something was wrong with me. That’s why I think books like this are useful.

Er…wut?
Because “art” no longer exists?

Not fair – those weren’t the only things I was interested in as a teen. In fact, drugs weren’t even an issue.
To be honest, the title ought to have something to do with secularism, and then you could include atheism. It's a short section.

I did not say it was a bad thing... I said it was pointless.

But not as useful as a supporting and accepting friend

True for you.... but for the masses which one would hope this was aimed at? Religion is not a concern to them, nor is it a particularly attractive subject.

Opinion - we'll agree to disagree.

Not everyone has one of those.

Over-generalized, I think. The spate of kids interested in keeping their schools secular would suggest the wind is shifting.

Then they should make one in themselves.

These kids which are a minority of the rest and whom most of the rest despise? Yes, I know of them too

The point of education is to reach out and provide information for those who haven't found it and might not even know it's there. Also for the fence sitters. I'm not interested in denouncing a compilation of said information on the basis that it's useless for one particular person or another. I do think his information needs to be corrected.
But then again I keep getting told I'm a big weakling, so what the fuck do I know?

FTM - I'm taking your words exactly how they look to me. You say A, I say what's wrong with A, you say you meant B.
I KNOW you didn't say you understood religion... that was kinda my point.
You never said that you wanted to use religion as a scientific tool... but I infered that directly from your statement about religion ...that's how you were trying to use it FROM YOUR STATEMENT.
Tiresome? Pshhh.
Maybe I need to dumb it down a bit for you.
Rhiz
No point to make then.

I have no idea what you're talking about or if you're putting me on.
