I think if politicians are going to make outrageous claims, they should be ready to own it and present evidence. Otherwise, they're just talking out their asses, and while that seems harmless enough, it can be dangerous because the American public buys any bit of bullshit with which they're presented.
The vaccine she claimed made people mentally retarded prevents HPV (Human Papillomavirus), which is a sexually transmitted disease that causes cervical cancer. It can also be given to boys to prevent the contraction of genital warts. So, yes, you can catch it, and considering the amount of teens having sex, and the lack of safe sex education in public schools, I think it is very important.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out why Michelle Bachman is so against such a vaccination. She knows good and well what that vaccination is for..
She's so full of incomprehensible shit-

To be clear, I am not stating that it is unimportant. In fact, I started the rounds on it for my stepson for the very reason you posted at his 10-year physical. I think parents should get this vaccination. I am just saying that forcing them to is overkill.

I think the reason for that is an effort to control and perhaps eliminate the spread of HPV...
Similar to the smallpox vaccination. I can understand why, but at the same time, I agree that forcing it is kinda ridiculous. You'd think doctors would be able to explain the benefits to parents, and parents would just want their kids to be protected.
Unfortunately, because of people like Bachmann, the unfounded rumors might outweigh the facts, and enforcing the vaccine may be necessary for public health concerns.

Maybe we shouldn't force parents to get their children vaccinated against this and that before they can go to a public school then (don't know of too many private schools that would let an un-vaccinated carrier through the doors either). No, no, this one should be mandatory (same as the rest). If people want to opt out of our little social contract fine, they can go live on an island with all of the other jackasses.
Deciding not to vaccinate a child is not a decision with consequences limited to the individual, or their child, it has consequences for humanity as a whole. Not that certain sectors of the public would realize this, because these things aren't "evolving" in the un-vaccinated host, just a myth right? Besides, cervical cancer and genital warts are the wages of sin, fornicators get what they deserve......
This isn't limited to politicians and whacked out celebs btw, there was a huge ruckus in the service about anthrax vaccinations, lawsuits were filed. People were actually refusing this vaccine directly before being deployed.

Michelle Bachmann maybe deep inside believes the administration of the HPV vaccine stops god from fully exercising his judgement for certain sins through diseases such as cervical cancer, genital warts and etc.
It is not surprising since a lot of her "brothers and sisters in Christ" believe that their imaginary friend (god) likes to punish certain sexual acts, above other sins. Mind you this is all indicators these people are extremely sexually repressed, it all shows you that god was created in the image of man not the other way around.

Actually, if you raise your children well and have them vaccinated, you don't have to worry about the unvaccinated masses. Smallpox had more dire consequences to humanity as a whole because it spread much differently than HPV. The reason I don't think STD vaccines should be forced on parents is because people have a choice. They can wear condoms when they have sex. With shit like smallpox, there is little choice, unless you want to hide from the world. Let's not compare apples to elephants here. I'm not downplaying cervical cancer, penile cancer and anal cancer. I am saying there is no reason to force people to vaccinate their children against something that is sexually transmitted. You can fucking bet every kid I have will be protected, but that doesn't mean I am going to suggest that they force other parents to do it.

It would be pleasant to imagine that how I raise my children would have some effect on the likelihood of them catching this or that bug. I'm not really sure that there is anything to suggest that this is the case. A virus' ability to infect, reproduce, and evolve is more than likely not directly related to my ability as a parent.
Influenza is currently thought to have been a crossover of early domesticated animals as of 6000 years ago.
HIV, chimpanzees.
I understand that you would be uncomfortable with mandatory immunizations. I am not, that's all. (As a side note, what happens when your vaccinated and uninfected child wishes to have a child with an un-vaccinated and infected "other", lets consider some potential risks to std's and reproduction)

Did you willfully ignore the part where I said, "and have them vaccinated?"

No, i got that part, and if your kids and my kids ever did the dirty they'd be happy and healthy (and fabulous), however, that's an exchange between two people who have been immunized. Those that are not run the risk of reintroducing a more aggressive form of same said virus that is not affected by our fabulous children's immunity. There is no certainty that this new virus would be limited to the means of transmission that limited it's predecessors. 15 years into a wonderful marriage and my kid comes down with an "std" from a swig from the wrong beer bottle at reunion party. I'm gonna blame your kid, cause I raised mine right, know what I mean?
(I do understand your objection to mandatory vaccinations, I just don't think it's a very safe way to address the issue, given how crowded we are now, and projections for the future, that many potential hosts in such close proximity....People who don't vaccinate their children may as well be pointing a loaded gun at mine)

Er....those unvaccinated masses are exactly the dynamic that Bachmann is aiming at.
The dumber they are the better she likes them....and they her.
