Another question for Christians
RE: Another question for Christians
There is a full pantheon of bloodthirsty gods to choose from when making whatever sacrifice you wish to make. One doesn't have to assume that any of them exist to ask why human beings feel that blood is spiritual currency. In fact, human beings believe that blood is spiritual currency despite the fact that the tax collectors themselves (those blood gods) don't actually exist, yours included. That scapegoating and blood sacrifice have no effect should be obvious. Firstly, what effect could they have? By what mechanism? To whom?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Quote:the question was "WHY does blood sacrifice bring any atonement for our sins?"

And if there is no god in the first place then all you are doing is killing something for no reason.

I'm fighting with an idiot on another board where he's claiming that Mt. Ararat was REALLY the place where the ark landed and not all these other places that ark hunters are looking for it. My point is, "shouldn't you demonstrate that there was a gigantic, earth-covering, flood in the first place before you worry about where a fictional boat landed?"

What do you expect, if the faithful don't insulate their beliefs from each other the whole thing would collapse from the impressive weight of years of revisionary bullshit. Dont even ask them to explain something in it's entirety, it's indefensible, they'd rather take it point by point and just assume that it all adds up as whole. That each point can't even support itself is similarly lost.

"Why blood sacrifice"

-some bullshit about god and sin and blood

"What god"

-"THAT'S NOT WHAT WE'RE DISCUSSING!"

Riiiiiiiight.

Tracey Harris of The Atheist Experience has referred to this sort of thing as the social structure of Bigfoot. It's all very well building up the details of what do they eat, how do they reproduce, how long do they live etc, and you can construct an incredibly rich, consistent and plausible model - but unless the creature can be shown even to exist in the first place, everything else is white noise. Or bollocks, if you prefer.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

One of the wonders of the human mind, in the absence of any actual detail we'll fill in the blanks.

By asking this question it is already assumed that God is real and that Biblical answers are an option, since the Bible talks about God.

I'm glad I could help you understand that, we all need help sometimes. Smile

Confused

Err who are you addressing salty? Confused

I've forgotten now.
