Everyone who supports the bible as a moral code though can't have much of an issue with rape. If you rape an unmarried woman, your "punishment" is to pay the father some coins, then the woman has to marry you. I'm sure there are plenty of other messed up rules about rape in the bible too.

What many people fail to understand is that rapists are opportunistic cowards. They wait until their victim is vulnerable. The frightening thing is that we are all vulnerable at some point in our lives so how exactly should I prevent my own possible rape? What would I be taught that I don't already know?

Women are taught to view men as potential rapists. That is unfair to both men and women but that is what happens when society focuses on how victims can prevent their own attack.

It would be unfortunate indeed if we were to mistakenly blanket all rapists as being cowards. Some of them get it... after all, take someone by surprise and they may as well have been comatose. Where's the thrill? Where's the fun... in that? How could one rape the unwary without feeling... bored? That's not the kind of person that I am, and I'm sure that there are others who think as I do; less of fear and more of depravity arisen from boredom.

But the people you speak of? They're also vulnerable... and many of them do it by mistake... they are weak... they lose control: they are human. Just. Like. You. And are they scared? Yes, many of them are. Perhaps they'll never forgive themselves... there is a reason that most rape happens during passion. If only for a moment, if it's forgivable... failure.

Woman and men are all "potential rapists"... such a shame, really... because if you treat someone like they're an inhuman monster long enough: eventually, they'll start to believe you. They're so disgusting, eh...? Such a girly man, eh...?

Improve life for everyone, decrease devision among everyone... and people won't be as likely to be out to get you. Encourage, and people will have a better opinion of themselves... stronger. But society is weak... it doesn't dare... it fears change... rejects it.

The problem isn't saying that people should avoid dimly lit places. The problem is that rape victims are scrutinized for their attack in a way that victims of other crimes are not. It isn't just the issue of a woman's clothes. Anything that the victim did that left her vulnerable will be questioned and used to blame her for the attack. Even if the courts don't do it, her friends and relatives very well could.

People should avoid dimly lit places... a far better way to get mugged than to get raped.

For rape, it's probably better if you avoid the bedroom And they aren't wrong... tantalize and tease and you get tapped and you get tossed.

Believing you and your space will be respected is not a crime... but it IS reckless.

Instead of saying that women should avoid dimly lit areas or take self defense classes why can't people say that everyone should avoid dimly lit areas and take self defense classes? Men can be attacked or robbed also. Almost all the ways that women are told to avoid rape should also be used by men to avoid crimes.

Wouldn't matter, they're weak anyway. Wouldn't matter... they start at a severe disadvantage.
