The last person I got into a morality debate with just kept repeting that my opinions were subjective, and didn't matter, regardless of what examples I gave. It wasn't going anywhere, so I left the thread. If someone just refuses to listen, and keeps making the same counterpoint as nausea, then there isn't really anything you can do. I've often heard people making special pleading for their god. He's basically a hypocrite. He hates it when you kill people, but it's ok when he does it because he created the world you live in. Which doesn't really make sense. My parents created me, but if they kill me it's still murder.
I believe part of the problem is that I've grown up in a wildly different culture. Leaders in my country are supposed to be public servants. Not unquestionable rulers. The idea of killing something innocent in order to cleanse me of my wrongdoings is foreign too.

I've read enough of the bible to know what there is no justifying context to almost all the horrible shit in it.
Considering we're taking about a supposedly all powerful being, he should be able to accomplish whatever stupid crap he wants to without causing/allowing gross suffering. Making feeble excuses for him is just Stockholm Syndrome.

There's that one darkmatter2525 video that was all about if god did have a plan, I loved that one. It doesn't take much to look around you, at the infinite number of things you can catch religious people doing, to know that religion is a big problem in the world. Current dilemmas include; the war on terror, the war on red cups, religious candidates trying to deny gay people rights, religious candidates saying atheists should never be president, rampant homophobia in our culture. No one gives a fuck that these are all driven by religion, then you debate about which religion is right. It's all garbage. Everyone will always look at the biblical context of any debate, they never take a step back and think, hold on, maybe it would be better if we left religion out and looked at it logically. No serious though, we are fucking arguing over starbucks having red cups. Plus, that's not even mentioning when you look at what the bible actually says, you realize that it's filled with contradictions and crap. Religion is a poison and a reflection of the lack of intelligence we have as a species.

Quote:Top cuck, Morality flows from God himself without requiring that god arbitrarily decides what kind of traits will and must be considered good.
That's because God is a triune being, he is 3 beings all at once and he can objectively know right and wrong from one another because he's a triune being.
God doesn't decide alone due to the trinitas, the trinity, The three persons are distinct, yet are one substance, essence or nature.
In this context, a NATURE is what one is, while a PERSON is who one is.
Its not a Christian problem or dilemma or whatever you love to call it because it's easily explained, socrates does not and did not undermine the integrity of christianity but rather provided an opportunity to show the strength of being a triune being, a trinitas.
The trinitas is central to most Christian faiths which you would have known had you actually studied this siht, its believe is that there is only one God in three persons and while distinct from one another in their relations of origin and in their relations with one another, they are stated to be one in all else, co-equal, co-eternal and consubstantial, and each is God, whole and entire as the bible says.
From the Bible:
"it is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds."
So you literally can't debunk this shit, because it's purely made up crap. At this point, there's no point in arguing philosophy. This is his response to a video I showed him by darkmatter2525, his new one called "why is murder wrong." This is also apparently why he thinks god isn't a dictator, besides the fact that I told him god isn't a dictator because he doesn't exist. What I actually meant is he does things indicative of one.
Wait. Ben Carson is on your Facebook page?

DFM: Very well said!
Religion is a redundant ignorant way of "making sense" of things with dumb magical stories. It is incredible to me that we're still plagued with it after everything we've learned.
But then, science is hard. Fairy tales are easy.

Your question is a question I ask myself every day. He keeps coming back to me, he keeps doling out loads and loads of abuse. I don't necessarily feel my self esteem or general mood dropping. I also don't have many people to talk to, so I generally like having someone around who will just start debating at the drop of a hat. It keeps the mind flexible. I have been on dating websites for the past six months, just trying to find someone who I like to hang out with in person. It's been an ongoing pursuit, I've been through several really toxic friendships and this one is probably the least toxic of all of them. They have all been online.

They like parts of the OT. The anti gay stuff, the ten commandments, and likely a few other parts. Christianity can't really divorce itsself from its father religion, because they decided Jesus needed to be linked with yahweh and fulfill stuff in the OT. As a cult it absorbed things from all surrounding faiths. What we have today is largely inspired by paganism and zoroastrianism. Nothing says Jesus like christmas trees and easter bunnies, right?

Yup. It's no surprise that they spend a disproportionate amount of time talking about Jesus and the NT considering it's the minority of the book. The OT is just more and more of an embarrassment.
