One instance of that and the policy goes into the shitter....especially in fucking Utah.

Grade school girls can't say No when asked to dance
|
During my younger days while camping we were paired with camp-buddies who were decided by pseudo-lottery (cause the pairings often seemed suspiciously pre-determined to me) and we weren't allowed to say 'no'. I can sort of understand how that helps teach inclusion, cause no matter how we felt about each other, we had to work together to get the badges. But in this case, the policy seems quite misguided and does in fact send the wrong message. I fully agree with the mom in this instance.

They're training these kids that others are more important than themselves. One's own feelings, indeed potentially one's own safety, matter not nearly so much as the maintenance of an artificial socialbility.
There are other ways to teach inclusion that don't teach submission as well. RE: Grade school girls can't say No when asked to dance

As I’ve recently discovered, it seems the whole of ethics is just commentary on one question: “how dare you worry about your selfish needs and desires when you can worry about someone else’s selfish needs and desires?” And it would appear that this is the generation that brings this into sharp relief and doesn’t even bother to dress it up in the language of the greater good
Or universal rights or anything like that. Answer selfishness with selfishness. Or the sort of Mutual oppression that would make Ellsworth Toohey proud and why the fuck has the world degenerated itself to the point where Ayn Rand starts to seem like a decent point of reference? Well, at least it’s not Atlas Shrugged, so At least I haven’t totally taken leave of my senses.

That’s creepy as fuck. No one should be forcing or threatening kids into participating in any kind of unwanted touching. What the hell? If I was parent to one of those kids I’d be throwing a fit about it.

No just no . No one should be forced to dance if they don't want to.

The title is a bit misleading. No one can say no unless there is a legitimate issue. Not just girls to boys.
I can kinda see both sides, to be honest. The dance is voluntary. If you don't feel comfortable with the rules, don't go to the dance.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
My, how times have changed. I've asked a lot of women to dance, and many of them gave a 'no' that was, to say the least, enthusiastic.
