Outside the pages of the fictions known as "scriptures," gods don't actually do anything that violates the physical laws that govern reality.  Believers certainly can't call upon those powers to do anything that is technically impossible.  Sure, they can think the Holy Spook is guiding them; and sure, they can put on the god-mask in their imaginations and talk themselves out of bad situations; but that's as far as it goes.  No loved ones raised from the dead.  No healed amputations.  Just one more self-help book that occasionally inspires a life change.

Surely all his work was done when he first created our environment? He knew what would happen from that point on, so did he make things so they'd deliberately go wrong, so he'd have to keep getting involved to patch things up?

Or is he altering the perfect plan to something less perfect on the whim of Christians?

PS: that brings up an interesting point. God knowing the future can be married with us having "free will" if you assume that God constantly intervenes so as to counteract our free will, funneling us into the pre-preprogrammed direction.

So, not really free will. But it feels like it, even though he has his hands on our balls the whole time.

EDIT: If we put aside for a bit carrot and a stick, then all God is left with is an offer/truth, I think: "I created you, so follow my orders from now on. You refuse? But you know, I'm God and I can do....(here is the part where stick and a carrot are back in action)".

Can you define truth your talking about, because there are many truths out there.

Theists can only understand god to the extent anyone can perceive a writer's fictituous character. An attempt to understand anything beyond the written word is mere fallible human interpretation augmented for mere emotional comfort.
