I just wanted to clarify something here. I didn't come into this conversation, to debate same sex civil unions, and for the most part I haven't been. What I have been talking about is the demonization and intolerance, towards anyone with a different view than your own. Against the hate and attacks on anyone who holds a biblical view in this matter (which we have seen here). There are some who call themselves Christians who act similarly (or even worse) towards homosexuals and people with same sex attractions, but that doesn't legitimize the lying and twisting words and the other rhetoric. As of right now the discussion was taken out of the hands of the people, and was handed down by five un-elected lawyers. I'm not angry or bitter about this; although I think there is a lesson to be learned about progressive judges who will legislate from the bench.
However; I believe if an objective morality, which by extension means objective rights. While we may debate about what those things are, we can't just change them. Definitions of words do change, and can no longer mean what they use to. Sometimes, they may have multiple meanings, in which we need to determine what the speaker is intending. I think that this thread serves as an example of bigotry towards Christians and those who hold a traditional view of marriage, than showing any bigotry towards homosexuals.
Edit: by bigotry I mean: obstinate or intolerant devotion to one's own opinions and prejudices. Not just believing that the other is in the wrong.

You mean a view that for nebulous and fundamentally bigoted reasons invokes an imaginary god as proxy for the responsibility of ones own positions?

The view above is a "biblical view" on the matter. Calling it "biblical" doesn;t mean that it isn;t bigoted.
Quote:However; I believe if an objective morality, which by extension means objective rights.
The bigoted biblical viewpoint is objectively wrong and objectively immoral, and while it is any given christian bigots fundamental right to hold that opinion...that opinion, freely held, does not mean that there will not be consequences for espousing that view..or that the state has a compelling interest or ability to endorse those religious views with the terrible power of the state.
You;re on the wrong side of this one for no reason. Bigots don;t get to complain about being called bigots.

I also noticed the usual binary religious thinking at play. If we change a definition or a law at all, then that's the same as changing it completely and utterly to absurd amounts (toasters etc.)

Unbelievable. I dislike the views of bigots, obviously, and I would hope that they would eventually examine the reasons they feel the way they do and maybe change.
But I dislike it even more when someone is obviously a bigot but won't come out and say what they really mean, and instead hides behind a series of shields such as definitions, religious righteousness, and appeals to tradition. At least own your prejudices.
Trying to oppose changes to the law which allow people equal rights is intolerant. Throwing people out of your family/church is intolerant. Harassing people on the street is intolerant. Calling someone a bigot on an interent forum, when they say bigoted things, is not intolerant. No one is trying to silence anyone, hassle them, remove their rights or change the law so that they can't hold or display those views anymore. It's simple pushback of opinion against an opinion.
