I used to do this all of the time.  30 minute power nap, then several more hours of effort, to get the job done.  I'd snore and dream and the whole nine yards during that half hour.

I've always been "blessed" to have the ability to sleep anywhere at any time.  I even fell asleep standing up, during an overnight inventory, when I worked retail in high school.  They said I was snoring.

Not me. When I fall asleep, I fall over if not already lying down. I sometimes do fall asleep sitting at the computer these days, though. I get a stiff neck, but at least don't fall over.

I stood with a 10" vertical support pole between my shoulder blades, legs apart, with my knees locked, and chin on my chest.  Asleep.
Disappointing theists since 1968!

You just described my family whenever we get together as a group.

Family Xmas dinners were always 'difficult". I tried to leave before first blood.

At 29 I had just bought my first house, and it needed work. A bit short of money so I got a boarder.  Working full time and attending University part time. That wasn't enough, so I go a weekend job delivering Newspapers to agents. That was from around 12.30 AM to 4 AM.
Looking back It's a wonder I'm still alive. These days I'm doing well if I don't have a 2 or 3 hour grandpa nap. Dodgy

I think workers have lost sight of how valuable they are. Our great-grandfathers were all, ‘Begging your pardon boss, but the lads have being having a bit of a chin-wag, and we’ve decided that eight hours is a full day’s work. We hope that’s all right, because if it isn’t, we’re going to burn this factory to the ground’.

Workers today are, ‘You work 50 hours last week? Ha! At my last job I put in 75 hours a week, you pussy.’

Here in OZ, the 40 hour week became law on 1/1/1948.  I joined the Australian Public Service in 1966. We worked  36 3/4 hours a week. That worked out at 7.21 minutes a day.

When I was studying Human Resource Management  (part time 1971-74)  It was reckoned that in offices [at least] which worked a 40 hour week, productivity was around 6.30.  As a career  public servant, I think that figure was highly optimistic.   I'm a morning person. I did most of my work between 8am -1pm, when I went to lunch.  I finished  work at 4.00pm. Having done very little work in that time. In 33 years, I was never once criticised for not doing enough work. One learnt how to always look busy.

Here in South Australia The Conservatives remained in power.  Many of them, including the Premiere, were Methodists, and most concerned about the morality of the workers. Hence, all pubs closed at 6pm.  Shops were allowed to remain open until 11am  on Saturdays. The entire state closed down on Sunday. No pubs, no restaurants, no theatres, nor any kind of organised sport.  Spontaneous, unorganised sporty was frowned upon. The other states called us wowsers, and referred to our capital city as 'Aunty Adelaide'.  Some still do.

Those laws did not change until 1970. The same time that the legal age of majority was changed from 21 to 18.

Children under 18 years cannot be tried as adults in Australia. The general attitude is that the concept of legal infancy exists for a reason; persons under 18 are not considered to be adults, no matter what they do. The federal government will not allow it. No state will be permitted to pass such a law unless it is law in all states. Yeah, States' rights matter, but nowhere near as much as in the US.  As an outsider it's my perception that many states effectively consider themselves separate countries***

***Federation occurred in 1901 here.  It was apparently a close thing because WA wanted to be a separate country. Western Australia covers roughly half of the continent.

Back in the mid-'80s, I had a task that I spent 84 hours a week on for 3 months, and then 72 hours a week for the following 6 months. That's 12 hours a day. I was compensated for 60 hours a week. I had this wild idea that I would get a fat bonus or promotion out of the deal. Nope. Call me a sucker. Before I retired, I was working three programs. One task involved doing what 7 people used to do, another task involved doing what 3 people used to do. Admittedly, efficiencies were achieved (on my watch) so that the head count could be reduced. Did I get 7 (or should it have been 10, or 11?) people's pay? Don't make me laugh. I couldn't get the next paygrade, after 2 years of blather about it. I retired at 62, when I found out that I could afford it. That was 7 years ago. NB- there are three people doing what I was doing, and doing it OK because of the efficiencies I brought about. The company doesn't complain- they get paid for each head on a government project. smh

In the late 70s I got my first bartending job at a new establishment that was a restaurant/bar/dance hall. We had two bars and live music on the weekends. It was owned by people who owned a high end bar in another town. They taught me the flashy bartending moves. In a short time I was promoted to assistant manager...dumb idea on my part. I was on salary and I think the hourly rate turned out to be about $2.00 an hour with the number of hours I worked.

But I was single, I could eat free, and that's where all my friends were at night, especially on the weekends. I can't quantify how much fun I had even if I was perpetually broke. I was often working from 10 am to 3 or 4 am the next day - straight through. There may have been some chemical enhancement taking place to keep up with the hours. If I had to do that now, I'd maybe make it from 10 am till suppertime...maybe.

We do not have, and never will have, a device like Alexa in our home. My new "all-in-one" computer has the movable shutter placed in front of the camera. I'm not certain about the microphone. I think I have it turned off. I don't consider any of the optical or aural "conveniences" to be "conveniences". But then, I worked in defense for 31 years, so maybe I have a different take.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
