Oh, look, all I needed to do was look up List of Black Academy Award Winners and Nominees and I found THIRTEEN fitting your criteria. And four of them, black actors won for their performances. And I omitted documentaries and shorts from the list.

My criteria was best picture... try again.

Why does only best picture count? Other than the obvious reason that narrowing down the criteria eliminates all the evidence that refutes your premise, that is.

A movie isn't one man (the star) it's all the elements that go into a movie that make it a movie.

Not to be a nudge, but you left out ‘Crash’, which starred Don Cheadle AND won best picture.

Plus, by my count, that only excludes two other films: 12 Years a Slave and Django Unchained. Adding that to the two black gay movies, that's a total of four movies that would have been eliminated, leaving 13 other films that I delineated in this thread less than an hour ago.

Let's just acknowledge this criteria sucks.....

I guess that one flew under my radar, since nobody black was even nominated for that one.

Also, Nay_sayer, I deliberately did not include Into the Spider-Verse because the protagonist of that movie is Puerto Rican... except that, looking it up on Wikipedia to confirm it, he's also apparently part-black. I think I need to update the list.
