THE Gun Thread

Do you know how to build a gun? From sctatch?

I know I could. I know at least a dozen guys who could. It is NOT rocket science. Any good machinist could build a gun - and the simplest is a sub-gun. Look at the complexity of a Bren, a Sten, a Mac10 or M2 sub gun. They contain the fewest pieces of any repeater. A revolver is by comparison a much harder build requiring much more complicated, specialized machine tooling.

....

Capitalists have a long history of selling knowledge - if the price is right.

But you said that limiting guns would make the price of existing guns 'rise to ridiculous levels', which would in turn lead to the manufacture of illegal guns, which would result in the nightmare scenario of gangbangers with submachine guns.

None of that happens in countries that restrict gun ownership.  Not here, not the UK, not Canada, not Australia, not Japan...not anywhere. I researched the price of semi-auto shotguns in each of those countries and it doesn't vary by more than about 20 percent (up or down) than US prices.  And as far as I can tell (though it's admittedly a harder thing to research), not a single one of those countries appears to be struggling with the problem of home-made submachine guns.

Pay fucking attention.

The scenario depends on a condition that Brian wants - that DOES NOT EXIST - the halting of manufacture of new firearms....

Did you miss that bit or are you just arguing to see yourself in print??

You worded it poorly when you used the word ‘limiting’. I can only respond to what you actually write, not some unexpressed meaning known only to you.

I may have missed where 37 wants the manufacture of new firearms to stop. He’s expressed a desire that you vet your gun owners more carefully, but that’s not remotely the same thing.

Please don’t get pissy at me because you can’t express yourself properly.

Did you JUST come in on this conversation?

Let me remind you - you ASKED Brian what the " right" number of gun is - did you think for one second he would not insist that number had not already been acheived - but more guns needed to be built?

Dude - some things ARE safe to assume......

For sure... such as.....if the price of guns went up because the availability of guns went down..it's safe to assume a corresponding drop in gun crime. Mostly because that's what happens. Whether you or me or the housecat thinks that would be good based on some other metric is irrelevant, it is what happens.

No, it really is an all zip code problem. Urban, suburban and rural. Locations certainly vary, but firearm violence is everywhere.

I have always hated "senseless" and "Isolated incident" used in actualities or interviews. Every shooting makes sense, in the home or mass shooting. Someone flipped out, wanted revenge, didn't want to lose their house or children, had mental health issues, got mad at their neighbor. Had road rage.  And firearm injury and deaths in the home count too, not just mass shootings, and those injuries and deaths can and do happen in in all zip codes.

Not by the numbers, it's not.  Take a look at the pops on your mass shootings.  Take a look at the rates of gun crimes against pop.  The reich wing has these dipshits terrified of black people getting guns in the alleged warzones we call the inner city.....the few remaining cities that haven't been completely burnt to the ground by blm and antifa, ofc.....and then descending like locusts on their outlying communities..... but it's bubba (and especially bubba's wife) who's the perpetrator or the victim of the overwhelming majority of gun crime in the us..largely due to the fact that bubba has most of the guns in the us.  Pretty simple relationship.

Why would they when cheaper guns are available?

Psst -- I think those guns aren't available either in the countries he's talking about.

That was his point.

Hard to get a gun here in the UK, I have zero fear of gun crime ... probably just a coincedence though!

37’s issue seems to be ease of access (he’s not as right as he thinks he is about that). This means guns in the hands of people, it’s got fuck all to do with manufacturing. When he talks about limiting guns, he’s obviously referring to how many people are able to acquire guns, not how many guns are built.

You are an adult. Act like one, admit you made a mistake and move on.
