I think some of you are confusing a desire to control immigration for a desire to stop immigration. What other countries just allow anybody to enter? You have to use some sense. If you can't physically deter people, then you don't have control of your own country's borders.

Not talking about other countries, we’re talking about solving what you and your ilk think of as a problem.

And, for the record, travel between EU countries is virtually unrestricted - no border checks, no passports, etc. I realize that the US is more paranoid than EU member states, so you could do it in stages. Start with Mexico. Anyone who shows up at the border with something that proves they’re a Mexican national gets to live and work in the US. How hard is that?

Well we sure as shit don't...but we used to, and no one seemed to think it was a problem then.  Too busy with other brown people, I suppose.  

We can physically deter people from our borders.....that's not actually a problem.  The question is why we would want to, unless they were driving a fucking tank?
