That offer has more traction with cops than with soldiers. That's the (or a) problem. Cops have qualified immunity, active duty soldiers do not. They don't even have the courtesy of the presumption of innocence....and we're not allowed to do shit cops do or escalate situations cops escalate in the first place.
Cops don't need this shit because americans are well armed - they are notoriously passive in the face of Well Armed™ americans - when there's even a difference between them and the cops. That's just part of their mob boss pitch whenever people get uppity about the quality of their enforcement. The cynic in me says that the aversion to gun control - in the well armed and cop population (again, when those terms aren't redundant) probably has at least something to do with maintaining this pitch. If we all gave up our shotguns, would they give up their ifvs?
