Correct.  The mad king initially sought to have secret meetings at camp david with the taliban to discuss the future of afghanistan but those had to be called off when they killed some american soldiers.  Not for long, though, as the dotard in chief did eventually sign the doha agreement with the taliban, excluding the afghan government from negotiations, timed to create as much trouble for the incoming adminstration as possible so that 10,000 year old man had something to tweet about in exile.

These two things alone ought to have informed you on the absurdity of believing that the united states was ever engaged in or even could save iranians from a fascist theocratic dictatorship.  Someone would have to save us from our own, first.

You're definitely wrong in this regard. Both Japan and South Korea provide excellent basing to offset their high operating costs. Those costs would be extremely high if we were to base our troops in a country whose population largely hates us ... a country that could only provide us one base of significant strategic value. Our Afghanistan folly cost America roughly $100 billion per year, every year, on average.

As I said, The Israel issue is an important issue in the US. Someone like Joe Biden would have found a middle way in which both Israel is protected and the Iran issue is handled without major economic consequences for all of the world. But would this have mean no war with Iran at all? – I’m not sure.

Good lord I hope it's the other way around.  The marine units have a larger force and significant amphibious and air power.  The idea of the 82nd trying to jump onto a small island covered in defenders, aa, and large industrial installations is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard...but in trumplandia that does almost guarantee it's the plan, I suppose.  Maybe he told Whiskey Pete it had to be the 82nd because he heard they were all american and he didn't want any pictures of mexicans raising flags in iran. My grandfather served in the 82nd. He died not too long ago, still believing in maga.
