Play hard-to-get eh? She did say she didn't want to lose our friendship, which means I will still be seeing her. That allows for me to switch up the tactics.

Yeah, only not hard-to-get, but impossible to get, like you move on and forget about her. When you see her you should, like, honestly have forgotten her name. Don't keep her on a burner, don't be her friend, don't be mean to her either, just DON'T be there for her. Be the non-entity background of life and IF she takes notice in you only react if it seems genuinely romantic unless you are ok with swapping nailpolishing tips and being her gay best friend. Oh, and FUCK her friendship. I have female friends, but only as a side effect of trying to sleep with them or not having any interest in them whatsoever. I am not now friends with any woman that I pine for, that is just a shitty idea and it has only caused me woe. Plenty of woe, like woe on tap by the gallons!

You asked her.
She said no.
Move on.

The alternative is to either become an irritant or a doormat.

I'm sorry, but I am an old man and as such do not understand all the terminology being used by you young people.

'work towards improving myself'

Is this a euphemism for polishing the monkey?

It's not playing 'hard to get' that will attract her, it is demonstrating in (mostly) non-verbal ways that you are a high status male (high status in evolutionary terms).

The best way to attract this girl is for her to see you as in demand. If she sees you date several other women, her opinion of you will change. All the while, continue to hang with her, and tease her in humorous, lighthearted ways. I can guarantee that it is possible to get her to change seeing you as the 'nice guy friend', to an attractive male.

Women and men are attracted to each other for reasons that are due to our evolutionary past. We can't use logic or rationalize ourselves into being attracted to a particular member of the opposite sex.

Some of the best books I ever read that helped me with my dating were books on evolutionary psychology.

The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating - David M. Buss
The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature - Matt Ridley
The Mating Mind: How Sexual Choice Shaped the Evolution of Human-Geoffrey F. Miller

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Take this advice for what it is, which is simply observations during my experiences, but from what I've seen, the thing that will most draw a female's attention is complete and utter indifference towards how they perceive you. Showing that don't you care if they like you or not seems to make them notice you.

Also, avoid coming across as desperate at all times. Women can smell that like a shark smells blood, and that is not a quality they find attractive.

This is so true, thats why I do not exist, because coming from a heritage of many generations of low status males my family has now died out. I will tell my son the bad news when he gets back from seeing his girlfriend.

I think Wayne said it best:

Garth: Uhm, Wayne? What do you do if every time you see this one incredible woman, you think you're gonna hurl?

Wayne: I say hurl. If you blow chunks and she comes back, she's yours. But if you spew and she bolts, then it was never meant to be.

The truth is I've just fed myself a lie for too long
I never thought this would be me

My favourite Christian band, Memphis May Fire, always reminds me of how life functions. The truth is that the lie we believe is that things will be alright when in actual fact it's up to you to decide how it's going to end. It almost works like a formula of conservation of mass when it comes to effort and reward; you will only ever get out what you've put in.

Today I've been reminded of this. Whenever we fall the only thing that can be done is to get back up, brush off the dust and give it another shot. That thing that you're after isn't going to land in your hands out of luck. It's going to take hard work and that hard work will show your circumstances that you deserve what you're after.

So I've been rejected by a girl. Now I know I have to work towards improving myself and showing why I deserve her. This to me seems like the logical approach as opposed to believing that superstition will change the circumstances, because what my life turns out like is in my hands.

I don't think this is any argument for God, but it seems to me that many people do not have control over their lives. It is not simply the case that what you get is what you give… maybe for people living in wealthy western democracies, but not for many people in the world. Consider, for example, someone whose house gets bombed in the middle east, or someone who dies due to a drought in Africa. Likewise with your situation, I think many things in this case, if we are totally honest, are not within your control. The girl who you like, her heart is not under your control. It may be the case that whatever you do, you cannot change her mind. The great novel The Great Gatsby was a narrative of something like this. I am not making any argument about God, I am just trying to explain that regardless of wether he exists or not, this seems to be the case. The point I am making is similar to one of the Alcoholics Anonymous steps, with has helped saved many people from heartache…. recognizing that there are many things not under your control.
