Right, so Pocaracas's post seems to put the whole matter to rest, right?

Either way works just as well, though, and you may find advantages in one over the other. As in most things, YMMV.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I can't remember that far back, though it's such a basic function I'd be surprised if it didn't. On the other hand, this is Microsoft we're talking about.

Wasn't it a Christian who just asked why, if slavery was so bad, it wasn't condemned in the bible?

But I believe Biblical slavery more closely resembled indentured servitude, which was found in early Colonial America as well. Only difference was a slave had to leave his family after his time was finished if he wanted to remain free in Biblical times....if he wanted to stay with the family he created under his servitude, he would have to pledge to be with his owner indefinitely. Guess the society was not as big on family as the Christians like to believe....then again, divorce and multiple spouses (and concubines) was acceptable under Jewish law (that whole you shall not divorce thing and single spouse belief did not come around until Jesus' time).

But the rebels had all this bible shit backing them up, Polaris..... Your god doesn't seem to have any problem with slavery.
You seem to be on the wrong side. Quote:"[Slavery] was established by decree of Almighty God...it is sanctioned in the Bible, in both Testaments, from Genesis to Revelation...it has existed in all ages, has been found among the people of the highest civilization, and in nations of the highest proficiency in the arts." Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America. |
