I have sought God earnestly too, but have little to show for it. My Christian friend says that my life is clouded in sin and that is why God does not bother with me. I am vexed about this.

Why can't non-christians talk with god?

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

"So who are you to question God who has the right to do as He pleases."
Oh look might is right - how refreshing. Sure explains Christian morality.... Why has this song just popped into my mind I wonder?
Kuusi palaa, ja on viimeinen kerta kun annan vaimoni laittaa jouluvalot!

"He will prove, blah blah blah", but you gotta die first to see him. Would you die for Zamcar the Great GC? No? Now you know how I feel about your fictional "God" character. They claim that my questions would be "hateful" which amounts to a prohibition of asking questions based on my understanding and observation using the brain and logic borne to a "child of god." Seems to me the Christian responses are fairly consistent, God answers pray to those who come to Him in the right spirit, your understanding of God doesn't matter, your acceptance of who God is, is what's required. By the way just because you can't hear God for what ever reason, doesn't mean many people have not heard Him speak to them. You need to listen with the heart, not the ears, it does have a lot to do with how you listen. Here's a great way to hear from God, go to scriptures and study prayer, then follow the instructions, you could be surprised. GC

Let me make up one of my own for you... I know God, I have no doubts He is real, why, because He has proven Himself to me, it's a process of faith, belief and then knowledge. Like any relationship it takes time and effort, kinda' like a successful marriage. There's a problem with Zamcar, he's never proven to me he's real. Also God has proven to me He's real and said there are no other gods. This is how I can eliminate all other gods. GC

This assumes that Christians do indeed, "talk to God", as many claim. Some even claim to get answers. So exactly what's going on here?
Our minds are complex. We are able to think about conversations we've had in the past. We can sort of, "replay" dialogue in our mind. We can also imagine future conversations, what he might say, how I'll reply, and so on. It's very easy for us to have these "imaginary" conversations, and most people do this frequently. Fiction writers and "psychics" do this for a living. From this universal ability of the human mind, it's very short leap to believe that some of the imaginary voices you create are valid, real conversations, perhaps from a deceased loved one, or perhaps even... from God. Then you have your full-blown schizophrenics, who not only hear voices, but see imaginary things as well, and are unable to distinguish reality from hallucination. You tell me you have conversations with God, I'm going to ask you to do some serious critical thinking. If you still believe the voices in your head are something other than your imagination, I would then suggest you seek medical attention.
Give more than you take, and you will receive more than you need.

I used to 'know' god too - now i know better. Like you, I also 'know' things which I cannot prove to others - they're called constructs, and they can be observed, challenged, refuted, and amended to agree with other, more appropriate models for social interaction within humanity as a culture. You and I share one construct; we each 'believe' that we are headed to a destination. Your destination is 'construct'ed as heaven or hell; mine is a dirt blanket and a stone pillow. |
