Your Favorite Violent Part of the Bible

RE: Your Favorite Violent Part of the Bible
The story of Samson sounds a lot more stupid and barbaric when DarkMatter goes over it than when I heard about it in sunday school. That tends to happen when adults read stories like this with a clear mind, though. Noah's ark made a lot more sense as a kid than as an adult too.

Good video to watch, if you want to know how common the Jesus story really is.

It is weird when you read it like that. I could watch darkmatter2525 all day. Don't forget to watch all three parts. And deez tings.

I agree. It is only when I reached adulthood and began reading the bible for myself that I realized how screwed up that story is.

Quote:And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. Judges 14:19

First, this verse sounds pornographic. The child in me is giggling at the idea of god's spirit(whatever that means) coming on someone

Second, My religious friends often try to get around violent bible verses by claiming that some parts of the bible are purely historical and not meant to express god's approval of the events being depicted. This verse shows that god actually assisted and approved of Samson's killing of thirty men who had nothing to do with the riddle.

I mostly heard about the part about Delilah when I was a kid, and always wondered if Samson was smart enough to test her, and was repeatedly proven that she can't be trusted, why did he eventually relent? He had killed people for less than what she did to him, so why didn't he dump her after the first or second time? The best I can imagine is what the video shows. The authors don't think much of women, and want to give people an excuse not to trust them and keep them down.
