We agree on quite a lot. Like the fact that Bach is God. (Indeed, of the Holy Trinity, you worship two thirds.) But it is the differences that stand out more. Especially since I enjoy teasing you about the differences.
As for Scotch, I presently have a couple of single malts from a couple of islands. I am not necessarily wedded to the islands. The best Scotch I have presently is Highland Park. For slumming, I have a Bowmore Islay single malt that is passable. All this talk of Scotch is making me think about enjoying some while I type. But first I will finish the beer I am drinking. (The one I am drinking is from Canada, but is in the style of Belgium ale. It is okay, but I recommend you stick to Belgium ale for this type of beer.)
I also like cognac. And beer. Wine, though, is probably my favorite drink. (Champagne is one of the pinnacles of civilization. You are not, I hope, some uncouth savage who disagrees with such a self-evident truth as that.) But I do not restrict myself to those, and have some other liquor in my liquor cabinet. (Remember, screwdrivers are good for breakfast.) Since one of my life's goals is to never offend Dionysos, I keep a pretty open mind about alcoholic drinks. But there are some that I have never been able to enjoy. I have never liked the taste of gin, either by itself or with anything. But I have a gin on hand that is supposed to be good. Given my feelings about gin, I will likely have that bottle for a very long time. I rather like martini glasses, but martinis, not so much. 'Tis a pity that martinis are not better than they are.
So, what Scotch have you presently, and what blasphemy do you entertain against other Scotches?
I am somehow reminded of Irish whisky. I have some that makes me think of Scotch, but without the smoky flavor (derived from peat, I am told). My wife prefers Irish whisky to Scotch, but I attribute that to her ancestry. Still, I have some good Irish whisky, and I recommend that you not offend Dionysos by blaspheming against such a noble spirit, even if you may prefer Scotch, as I do.
The one regret I have in life is that it is too short to drink all that I wish to drink. But I am sure that Dionysos will appropriately reward me for my piety.

The OP specifically stated that he drank his rum straight. I am being totally respectful of that. Because he is obviously not some sissy who waters down his drinks, what's not to respect? We are just extending the conversation about alcohol. And I really do want to know about his favorite rum. If I can get it locally for something less than an insane price, I will very likely try it myself. If I hate it, then the disrespect may come, but so far, I am totally onboard with his idea of drinking rum straight. I don't want to see any foolishness criticizing that, and I assure you, nothing I have said thus far is intended in any way as a criticism of Captain Monkeyshines. (Which, by the way, is a pretty good name.) Have some rum, and it will all be good. One liter will be enough to see that Captain Monkeyshines is onto something with real possibilities.
