I wouldn't up and switch doctors, provided that you're comfortable with him otherwise.
Replacing a good doctor can be a pain in the ass.

My doctor asked me to pray.

Depending on what you're seeing him for, you might be switching your doctor for a pain in the ass

"Pray? To which god?"
"Sure, I'll do it right now! Oh Satan, I beseech thee, accept this worthless sacrifice before me to heal my spirit... ohmmmm......" *pulls out Kris knife*

I've never read anything non technical Thena. One exception: The Hobbit, when I was like 14! That's it! But I do watch all the book movies? Does that make me more efficient, or just lazy and dumb? (Please don't answer!)

No prayers of any kind. I am almost 50 and I amazed at how much modern medicine has progressed even during my lifetime. After taking my medication, I ended-up passing-out, but this morning, I feel great. I was diagnosed with Strep with a 102.1 fever, swollen throat, and all the disgusting sinus, etc. But, this morning, I am completely fine. Have to stay home from work because I am still "highly contagious"; that part I am going to believe!
Doctors work on stats.... stats say that most people are religious... praying helps with the psychological aspect of getting better, so... it makes sense to prescribe such a placebo.
Research indicates that, even knowing it's a placebo, you can feel the results. So, again, it makes sense to prescribe such a placebo, even to one who knows it's a placebo. And I think it was Voltaire who said "The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease." well, while the antibiotics cure the disease
God is so righteous. I mean, he could just have cured people of tumours before we figured out how to do it ourselves. But that would be showing off. Instead, he waits around, letting people suffer and die, until we develop the technology. Then he works through the doctors.
To the untrained eye, it may seem like actually he's not doing anything at all. Feel free to send me a private message.
