Damned Protestants...

RE: Damned Protestants...
Quote: I want to help people, they doesn't mean make them religious, just help people.

Holy Elmer [Fudd] save me from prigs.

My sincere apologies if you are that rare person, the altruist. I've never actually met anyone who meets my definition of the word. IE "an altruist is one who does good for its own sake"

Me? I often do good, which I call "doing the right thing" for one (or a combination) of three reasons: Sentiment, self interest or an annoying vestigal Catholic conscience.

I have been guilty of the odd altruistic act,but they are rare. My perception, at age 63, is that there are indeed altruistic acts, many, but no altruistic people. I may be wrong and meet one before I die,but I'm not holding my breath. Hence my use of the word 'prig' Thinking

Lest you misunderstand my meaning: To me,humans are only another species of animals, with fewer redeeming qualities than most other animals. (such as say dogs)

Did somebody say something?

Anyways, yet another freak:

http://voxday.blogspot.com/2009/08/there...-rape.html

vox Wrote:First, there is no such thing as marital rape. Once consent is formally given in public ceremony, it cannot be revoked; the form in which marital consent is revoked is well-established. It is called divorce. This isn't a religious issue, although many on both sides will attempt to view it that way, it's a simple matter of when consent is revocable and the specific form that revocation must take. I invite those who believe that consent may always be granted and revoked at will to consent to join the U.S. Army, then attempt to withdraw their consent. That should serve to clarify the matter for them; one hopes they will enjoy their extended holiday in Afghanistan. The attempt to create a legal concept of "marital rape" is no less than an attempt to destroy the basic concept of marriage. If the husband or the wife has no more claim to the spouse's body than anyone else, then the marital vows are meaningless and the marriage is a charade. Once consent is withdrawn, the marriage has ended.

I guess he has no problem with his wife cramming things up his unmentionables without his consent.

Don't know what you are talking about Vox, I don't agree that there is no such thing as marital rape. No means no, just because you are married does not mean she has to give it up every time you feel like having sex. I get your point about the military since I myself have served in the Marine Corp.

One thing we used to say is that freedom isn't free, the only way to realize that is if your ass is sitting in the thick of it taking enemy fire so that someone else could be back at home burning Korans and inciting the enemy to even greater violence. It's not just soldiers that are now targets of terrorist acts overseas, it's regular civilians who pay the price as well.

There is in Australia, and has been for over 30 years. I strongly suggest you don't try it here. We will put your arse in gaol, where you will make many new intimate friends and gain a new understanding about rape..Cool Shades

I'm aware of some of the more primitive and vicious beliefs about women, sex and sexuality held by some of the more primitive and vicious Muslims.

I split the thread to merge it with the other thread already going on about the FL pastor burning the Quran, we'll keep this thread focused on the raping type of theist.

Interesting....a man of peace with a gun. Apparently his bullshit god did not say "turn the other cheek" but rather, "give them both barrels."

Quote:Why people stick by scandal-plagued pastors

Quote:While most church scandals revolve around the conduct of a pastor, there's another question lurking behind the headlines that onlookers often ask: Why do some people stick by their pastor even when everyone else in the church seems to be leaving?

Building a firewall

Some do it because they've placed a "spiritual firewall" around their pastor, and in their own mind, said Sue Thompson, a professional speaker who attended a church that disintegrated after a pastor's extramarital affair was exposed.

She said some parishioners cannot leave a pastor because they credit him or her with a life-changing event, such as inspiring them to overcome drug addiction or turning around a disastrous marriage.

To accept such a pastor's guilt, she said, would lead them to contemplate another possibility: Is my life-changing event just as fraudulent as the pastor who inspired it?

"There is a suspension of common sense, a refusal to put two and two together," Thompson said. "For a lot of people, this is the man who gave them the keys to a whole new way of living. They can't separate the good they received from the man himself, so they feel it would be a betrayal to turn on him now."

When outsiders ratchet up criticism against an embattled pastor, members often go into battle mode, said Thompson, author of "The Prodigal Brother: Making Peace with Your Parents, Your Past, and the Wayward One in Your Family."

"They circle the wagons to protect their guy," Thompson said. "They don't want to see, and they don't want to be made to see what 'the world' sees. They believe the world's view is false, so they form the firewall."

here's where they first fail "because they credit him or her with a life-changing event," (even though I'm sure, to an atheist there are many fails prior to this)
The pastor first failed in the humility part, long before his public sin. A good pastor to me is always humble and a powerful servant first; never taking credit for where his power comes from.

These wolves prey upon human gullibility.

As for the second part, I'm reading a book by H.L. Mencken right now in which he talks about the growth of priesthoods on the basis of their being able to influence "the gods." People have been falling for this line of shit for millennia.
