Hurricane Harvey

If memory serves Rhonda is in Houston.

I'm about four hours inland. We've had steady rain since 4:30am local and that is projected to last through Monday. Winds are a little above average but nothing to worry about here. We're now projected to get between 10-20" locally which will cause flash flooding, but I live on high ground with good drainage so no worries there.

I know Austin is prone to flooding, with its gullies and culverts, and hope Mooney is somewhere safe.

Last I heard about Houston was that they're under flash-flood and tornado warnings. I hope Rhonda has been able to get to safety. To them and all others affected here, stay safe, stay home, and do not try to cross low-water crossings. Be safe, y'all.

Obviously, I have a romanticized view of such an experience, and am most unlikely to ever even try, but my thoughts come back to it this time of year . . .

In 1977 I was stationed at Roosevelt Roads, PR, and lived in barracks well above the waterline and about a mile back from the coast. One hurricane had me wondering if my swimmer certificate was up-to-date.

I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP !!

They had to ADD a color to the weather map for the amount of rain Harvey is expected to fuck Texas with !!

I got on the family grapevine and my brothers in Houston and Austin are ok at the moment.
But also heard about some disturbing events that happened to my brother in Houston a few weeks ago...ah, nothing surprises me anymore.

I'm glad Thump and Teresa's brothers are doing well.

I'm not in Houston. I'm about two hours east of Dallas up near Oklahoma and Arkansas. It's cloudy but my neighbor's wind chimes aren't even ringing. No hurricane is coming this far north and we haven't had a tornado since 1982. Maybe I should go to Google and see if these are famous last words.

I'm about an hour and a half away from Houston. Just a lot of rain here like always when this happens. *shrugs*
