We're seeing incidents like this with college students weekly. This is not a rare occasion. This type of stuff is happening consistently. I don't see why non-authoritarians see the need to try to make this seem like it's insignificant. These college students are the foot soldiers trying to make sure your free speech is done away with. 40 % of millenials are anti-free speech. That is a massive number. 'Free speech' is now seen as code for 'white supremacy'. To those saying that at least they aren't running over people in cars, that's the argument of a 4 year old. People who consider themselves progressive go out and kill people too. And if they get their way and free speech is done away with, that's an even worse outcome than a thousand people being run over by cars.

For my part, I have enemies on the right and the left. That's the thing about being a liberal. It means exactly the opposite of 'illiberal'.

Perhaps, if white supremacists hadn't normalized their racism as "free speech", then we wouldn't be seeing a backlash against "free speech"?
The terminus of this will likely be hate speech laws, and little else.

While i dont agree with the OP's generalization by attributing this to "the left" rather than saying "these people from the left", he isn't doing anything different from many of the threads here. There are entire threads titled "Damned ________" or "Christians this" and "Republicans that" which attribute all the bad behaviors from particular people of a group to the entire group.
Neo isn't doing anything different than what gets done all the time here, except he's doing it to your side.

I heard the same figure used recently during a round table discussion on NPR concerning the political right and free speech on campuses. Assuming the polling is solid, it's a disturbing development.
