That's exactly right. And gun control motivation from the fear of black people with guns goes back a lot further than that. The Dred Scott decision specifically states the fear of giving him the right to have guns as a reason for not recognizing him as a citizen. After the Civil War, southern states were trying all kinds of things to keep guns out of the hands of black people.

Since gun control has always been a racist thing before, why would anyone believe that it's not now? Everyone knows that it's not really the hillbillies and rednecks that we are trying to take guns away from. We want guns out of the 'inner cities'. It's always been a racist thing before. Um no, you are confusing the racism coming from that era for what the left wants now which is not racist, but safety. Blacks should be allowed to own firearms as well as any liberal. There is no political party oath or skin tone oath written into the 2nd Amendment. If you are going to go that far, then you'd have to call the entire constitution racist because the founders owned slaves.

It is absolutely true that when the Country was founded it was far more racist and sexist than it is now. But I really hate the attitude that the Constitution is not a living document. if it were set in stone, there would be no ability to Amend it and we would still own slaves and women could not vote. Part of that constitution allowed those horrible things to stop as well. "The right to petition the government for a redress of grievance" combined with the attitude of free speech allowed women to fight for their right to vote, and allowed blacks to end segregation.

If we insist on having a second amendment, it still is not racist today to say while firearm ownership exists, we still need to foster a safer society. It isn't about denying blacks firearm ownership. It is about creating safer urban, suburban AND rural zip codes. And living out here in the sticks where i do, I hear about shootings in my county just about every week, so it isn't just a urban plague.

With any crime, regardless of any city in the world, the odds go up the bigger and more dense the population is, but especially so if that population is more poor on average. That isn't a black or white issue, that is an economic issue. Blacks are not committing crimes at a higher rate than whites, but they are still hurt worse by our justice system. Blacks are far more likely to be charged more harshly and or receive harsher sentences than whites.

But with firearms, again, this isn't about punishing anyone of any zip code, this is about safety.

You are such a fucking idiot. The NRA is basically a sales representative for guns. They profit on publicity. Gun manufacturers give them kickbacks for all of the publicity the NRA gets. The NRA would have almost no power at all, if it were not for the constant attention that the media gives to it. Most people would have never heard of the NRA, were it not for the attention that the media gives to the NRA. The NRA's power really is rooted in the amount of publicity it gets. Like Donald Trump, the NRA thrives on media attention. The NRA would be a tiny little pathetic organization, if it were not for the constant blathering about them that the media does. Gun manufacturers would pay for ad space in their magazines, but they wouldn't give them kickbacks on gun sales.

The Catholic Church doesn't thrive on all of the media attention that it gets for pedo priests. So your conflation is idiotic.

That would be the NSSF.  The NRA isn't the sales or industry lobby.  They're a political lobby, kingmakers, they thrive off notoriety.

The sales and industry lobby thrives off anonymity.

Yep, my experience is about the same. I am personally not threatened by gun control talk, because I know that no one is ever coming for my guns.

NO, you are an idiot. I agree that the NRA is nothing but a protection racket, but that is like saying if we just ignore the Mafia they will go away. Not all Mafia bosses sought attention like Gotti. But no matter the individual's style the mafia still exists.

What would you have media do? Say nothing after a Newtown or Parkland? We should never point out that we have far more firearm violence than any other western first world ally?  The NRA and industry are going to always do what they think works, that is not an excuse to do nothing or never try to counter their narrative.

This is like telling a rape victim they shouldn't have worn that short skirt. I think anyone who has lost a loved one to firearm violence, be it suicide, or domestic or workplace grudge, or racist, or robbery, or terrorism, or mass shooting, has every right in the world to say something to our politicians and to tell the NRA to fuck off.

Too bad for you, retard. The NRA's life's blood really does depend on all of the media attention that it gets.

Yes, it is my fault for their immoral marketing. Like, "You deserved to get raped because you wore a short skirt." If you just ignore slave owners slavery would end on it's own.

Enough with the lip service and fake agreement. Fine, you are right I am wrong. Pony up with a solution yourself, otherwise all you are doing is trying to blow smoke up my ass.

No sorry. It doesn't work like that.

I am 52 years old. I am old enough to remember the 1984 McDonalds massacre in California. Since then we had Lubies in Waco Texas, the day trading workplace massacre in Atlanta, Columbine, VA Tech, Roof and the church shooting, Pulse nightclub, Newtown, Parkland, ect ect ect ect ect.

When is the right time to say something? Put up or shut up. Pony up with a solution because I do not think silence will work.

I gave away an sks last year. If the state were buying them, to get them out of circulation, I definitely would have taken the money.  Could have been $20 bucks, don't care, sold.  Twenty bucks is more than zero bucks.

It had sentimental value to me, once upon a time.  There's a pic here on the boards of me in my green checkered keffiyah holding my first son (third try is the charm!) in one hand and the rifle in the other.  Some kid tried to kill me with that gun.   I stepped over his dead body and took it for a souvenir.

Nobody was (or was ever) going to come for that gun.  Even if they did I wouldn't have given it to them.  Banning it without some sort of compensation would have cemented it's value in my mind.  It's not like I could have gotten another one like it.
