It doesn’t matter if it’s a domicile or not. I assume most states have the qualifier for restricted access. In one case there were minors, in the other case there were felons. In both cases every maid and clerk still have access to the room, unless u are in it and dead bolted. I don’t know if these two hotels have them but what about those mini fridges with alcohol, or hotel bars attached. And all of the above is plenty more than it simply being against hotel policy, above and beyond local restrictions. They were both stupid and both charged, their intent really doesn’t make any of it legal, it can only serve to add more charges or heavier sentencing.
I’ll answer my own question. If I owned handguns, ammo and rifles I would seriously consider why I would need to transport them( hint self defense isn’t an answer for more than 1). Then I would check my state and destination state carry laws, and every place/ transportation in between. I would then check with the hotel about policy and safes. Only then could I make the decision to travel. When I got there I would ensure they were locked up or locked to some the thing, if in my own safe. I wouldn’t load them from the time I left till the time I needed them. I would ensure they were kept out of other peoples hands at all times. That all seems perfectly legal and safe doesn’t it?

Why can't people like these just spank it to Angelina Jolie and drown their surrows in a bucket of KFC like a normal person?

It certainly matters that it is a domicile - as the right to protect oneself in your home applies.
While I would be unlikely to load my.rifle in the same situation - thete is nothing illegal about doing so.
As far as leaving guns in the room - I am unsure of Illinois laws. Many states DO have liability laws concerning this. Michigan does. If your gun is stolen - you can be held civilly and criminally liable for it' s improper use - UNLESS it is stolen from a locked gun safe. However - there is no law that says you MUST keep it in a safe. AFAIK ILlinois law reads about the same.
So is it stupid to leave a loaded gun in a hotel room when you leave? Duh.... Of course it is.
Is it illegal?
Nobody seems to be able to find that section of law..
Transport doesn' t count.
And stupid isn' t illegal. If it were we would have way more felons....

Remember everyone there is nothing suspicious about a group of drug peddlers with criminal records and an open warrant possessing a small arsenal (including tactical gear) specifically asking for another room with a balcony near a major public event. And there is nothing shady at all about one of them posting on social media that they wanted to “go out in a big way,”. Yup nothing off about that at all

All either man needed to do was say the magic word, domicile, and the cops would have let them go. We don’t have a gun problem, we have a vocabulary problem. Education is the answer.

I believe that is the point a lot of people are making. Stupid parenting, driving, gun ownership, substance abuse when it affects a public space is exactly the problem this type of policing works against and I’m generally for it.

Your reductio ad absurdum trying to equate the two cases ( which are not equal)shows your failure to present a valid arguement.

I clearly demonstrated at least two numbered points were they were both similar enough to evaluate. Occams razor and reducing an argument to manageable points isn’t a fallacy. Continue your red herring. Those two points were enough to get them arrested. I don’t claim that they’re the same, I claim that they’re both equally at least meeting a stupid threshold that got them arrested. Your position is what? I assume that there is enough differences to invalidate one arrest? BS
