That's one of the details that stuck out to me. You've got the mad king over there just busting out docs clearly marked and the group of people around him are giggling and soaking it all in. Not a one of them, apparently, had the foresight, patriotism, or even simple fear of the consequences required...to turn away.

Setting aside my oath and service, etc, I would've called the FBI simply for CYA's sake. That way, if I do see the inside of a courtroom, it's as a witness and not a defendant.

I think, for some people, it's the belief that some classified doc somewhere is totally going to confirm whatever conspiracy theory is central to their political identities. So, if they found a marked folder laying open at arby's they'd have to look on principle, to see if it was The One.

How, if you've ever read any classified docs, even low level shit, they often read like apocalypse scenarios - mostly because they're intentionally created to mention, among other things, the worst possible interpretation of the data. Most of them are boring, but the ones that are interesting, you don't even want to read, because they're fucking horrifying.

So, like you, I'm just going to not look and make a call and when they ask me "which ones" I'm going to say "ha, tricky fucks, no clue I didn't look and I won't be self incriminating today - but nice try".

How, if you've ever read any classified docs, even low level shit, they often read like apocalypse scenarios - mostly because they're intentionally created to mention, among other things, the worst possible interpretation of the data.  Most of them are boring, but the ones that are interesting, you don't even want to read, because they're fucking horrifying.

Someone writes a worst-case scenario and hangs a classification on it to get traction in a committee somewhere, big deal.  The stuff that causes the real damage just has boring data:  Frequencies.  Altitudes.  Depths.  Ranges.  Vulnerabilities.
