Yeah, and that's the part that gets me.
They're crying foul over 'creative license' with the story of Noah. But when they ran in to see Thor or Hercules, did they check it against the source material and complain that it didn't stay completely true also? I'm going to guess, no.
Which is it people, you got go one way or the other. Tongue

To me Noah should be a good film, just like other films based on ancient greek gods and whatever. Just because I don't believe in god, doesn't mean I can not enjoy an ancient story brought to the big screen.

Just out of interest, do "people like [your]self" object to the rewriting of 'the' story by producers of school nativity plays as much? And did The Lord Of The Rings inspire as much fervour?

One wonders why so many people seem determined to obsess over such petty, childish things.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I hate the idea of when ever a new film comes out, there are so many believing its all true, its just a bloody movie.

How are you defining people like yourself? I see that you've identified yourself as a Christian but which denomination because there are thousands of them?

After all the outcry from many Christians and disapproval from Muslims I was interested to come across articles like these - (I did a bit of research because Noah was a part of Judaism long before Christianity and Islam came along.)

The first is by a rabbi.

Movie Review - Noah: A Very Jewish Retelling

The second is by a Roman Catholic priest.

Noah: A Post-Modern Midrash

Anyway, back to Islam. I found a review by a Muslim -

A Muslim's Disappointment in Noah: The Film, Not the Prophet

His opinion is coloured by the Islamic view of Noah while many Christian views are coloured by their approach to interpreting the Bible.

The funny thing is that I would normally make a joke about having Noah pull out a couple of Uzis and go to town on the Nephilim or something snarky like that. But as I understand it, the film introduces some massive stone monsters because... YAY, MYTHOLOGY! It's as if the producers wanted you to know for sure that this isn't your father's flood myth.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

CA, "People like myself" were the target audience according to the drift from Paramount.

They stupidly trusted their 160 million investment into the hands of someone who painted Noah as nasty raving lunatic, with the purpose of the flood- to kill- off over population and save the environment.
The only thing correct was the names, the water and the boat.

After telling us they were making a true -to- story epic, they let it be turned into another monster fest.
They lied.
To their own detriment- they created another Hollywood bomb.
Is there a cure for stupid?

Oh, I call myself a Christian. No denomination.

On the contrary. It's made a bunch of money and received good ratings. They've only been encouraged to ruin more biblical stories. Personally, I would like to see one where Jesus flies and smites his enemies with laser vision.

Look at all of the silly gibberish the human race believes in. The only thing close to a cure seems to be death.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Big deal. An all-star and primarily all-American cast captured an Enigma machine from a German U-boat that in real life knew nothing of this, despite the true events having taken place with a British crew some seven months before America even entered the war; Legolas was never in The Hobbit; and Dorothy's slippers were originally written as silver. Hollywood practically never stays 100% faithful to the source material of adapted stories, mainly because the structures of the two formats impose different demands.

Not to mention that if someone was to film a totally faithful screen version of the Noah flood story, even xtians would most likely condemn it as being unutterably, ball-numbingly boring.
