How old is your grandfather?
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?
Who does an atheist lean on in times of trouble?

Whoever happens to be in my leaning radius at the moment. Do not approach the Tartarus if you aren't prepared for it, he will go for the lean whether you're ready or not.

I was too young to ask him when he died, but he was jewish and I didn't even know what that meant till later, since there wasn't a single religious tradition being observed in his house. I still have his diary covering the years 1914/15. Not one mention of god there, but lots about shrapnel rain, dirt and moisture. RE: Who does an atheist lean on in times of trouble?

My grandad never talks about his time in WWI. That's because he was killed at Fromelles in 1916.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Mostly I do the same thing theists do: I talk to my friends. However, mine tend to be slightly less imaginary.
The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?
I have an amazing collection of friends that I've made through our local atheist & agnostic group. They've made all the difference in many situations ever since I started hanging out with them. Truthfully, this is no different than a religious person running to their church groups for help - we just don't use god as an excuse to help each other out.
