I understand and sympathize. But the particular people who did wrong by you are just a small fraction of the billions of Christians out there. We're not all like them.   Shy

No, but the Christian institutions are clearly not more morally reliable, on average, than secular ones.  If you want to argue "people are people and there are bad people in any group," then what, exactly, is the value of either the Christian religion or the Christian institution?

Quote:Yes. But I don't see what I describe above as the same thing as someone saying "I did this because of this" and me responding back with "no, you did this because of this other thing." Lol. If someone tells me they did something for a particular reason, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they are telling the truth unless I have substantial evidence otherwise.
Sure you would, you wouldn't think that your religion explained their "sinful" behavior at all........lol.  You would almost certainly grant their contradictory explanation primacy over your own firmly held religious beliefs.......... Jerkoff

Sure. But I won't take 'because I care about you' as a reason for street preaching.

Perhaps it is the real reason, perhaps it isn't.

But since we can't read their minds or look into their hearts, the charitable thing to do would be to take them for their word and assume the best. Doesn't mean we have to believe what they are preaching, it just means we give people the benefit of the doubt when we have no proof to the contrary.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

That's not what I'm saying. If they actually cared about me, my wild guess would be they wouldn't do something that gives me anxiety attacks. They don't know me, and ergo have a limited capacity to give a shit about me.

Perhaps they don't realize that preaching on the street when you're around gives you anxiety attack?

Sure, but maybe they think that since Jusus's apostles did street preaching, it's ok for them to do it too.

Anway, wouldn't you agree that when you don't have proof in regards to a person's motives you should give them the benefit of the doubt rather than assume the worst?

I don't preach on the street, but I had never heard of anyone having anxiety attacks from it until Vic told me just now. It is completely possible that they just don't realize it. People can have good intentions while not knowing they are causing harm.

I do understand that preachers and stuff have good motives but as it stands in this day and age in the first world no one really
cares about the bible anymore and religion in general and the statistics shows it. Older generations are being affected as well to the
change that being said even the younger ones as well are leaning away from religion.

RE: Why Christians can't respect other's opinion?
I wonder how well an atheist preacher on the street would be received by most theists?

Honest wonderment. It would be very interesting, but not something I'd ever do.

I remember hearing somewhere about a "counter" to street preachers. Stand a little bit away from them, and say the same kind of thing they say, but keep referencing an umbrella or a brick you are holding out instead of the bible.

"Worship the brick or you will be punished, because the brick says so. It's not me threatening or judging you, it's the umbrella. Which is also the brick."
