There we have it, you are already prepared to believe the unbelievable. What could you possibly discover that would surprise you moving forward from this point?
It might be helpful to make something absolutely clear. These beings, that the ancient alien crowd are arguing for, are most definitely not gods. They invalidate every religious belief you may have ever held (or indeed still hold). What they are arguing for is not angels, or demons, or the servants of the lord, but a cut and dry alien civilization. A group of creatures that has leveraged our ignorance and superstition for some as-yet unknown purpose. It is only in this regard that they resemble our god-men, and even within this example we are much more clear on the purpose of our own traditional boogeymen. What, precisely, is a believer unwilling to believe in?
I have a sneaking suspsicion that it only "makes more sense" to you as long as it supports whatever you are already inclined to believe. There is no evidence for this line of argument. None. There is nothing but evidence to the contrary. This is top to bottom, from the position of the authors of the narrative you wish to champion all the way up to ET itself making visitations to our planet. Clinging to this is exactly equivalent to clinging to ID (in fact, ID is very often attached to these claims, as you have done here by proxy).
