Those shared characteristics of UFO that have you intrigued actually change over time. From the type and shape of the craft, to the likely origin of the pilots, it has all gone through the cultural meat grinder.
Radar picks things up all the time. We even design aircraft that it doesn't pick up. People see strange things all the time. Sometimes an object is very difficult to identify. Sometimes people actually are speaking directly out of their ass. There wouldn't be any controversy here if there were a shred of evidence. There isn't. What you have with "expert testimony" is a case of "I couldn't identify it, ergo aliens by default". That's insufficient. Nothing wrong with wondering though. There's some kid out there right now who is so intrigued that he is designing a vastly superior target acquisition, identification, and tracking system that will one day be the standard (obviously only an example of possibility).
